Anyone got any recomendations for new American folk stuff, like Seasick Steve, stuff about the deep south, trains, old churches, beards, local legends, whiskey, rivers etc.

The Low Anthem immediately jumped to mind when i seen the thread. The above is off the album "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin". Great album not all folk as above some dirty blues numbers like Seasick Steve's doghouse blues.

William Elliot Whitmore would be a good one as well. Storming performance on Later... This song is off Animals in the Dark great album too.

I'd say that Seasick Steve is more blues than folk but have you listened to Steve Earle? Although not strictly "new" his music is a million miles from old fashioned folk music. His lyrics are intelligent and have meaning and his musicship is superb.
And I believe that when he's not touring or in the USA he has a house in Galway.
