knowing there are a few fellow HIA fans around here I thought I'd ask which of the main HIA releases folks prefer, just out of interest.

I'd be in the Colourform camp, I suppose.

Q2 might be, which of the collaboration releases you prefer?

Freefloater for Q1 and probably Polar Sequences for Q2 but not sure really on that one!

I was only thinking the other day whether I prefer Texturology or Tastes & Textures Vol 2 by Beaumont Hannant :)

Beaumont Hannant *sighs*, the day was going to be straight forward and I'd picked out my early morning music (a bit of Shpongle) ... until I saw this.

    Teqtonik on headphones right now

tres groovy indeed. You can see how it's influenced quiet a few artists .. Entheogenic for sure.

I only had Freefloater so I guess you've just prompted me to go out and get Colourform so I can answer your question...

Aha, I've had that many a time, all set to listen to something and you happen to glance at something else and the CD is changed...

Shpongle is a good one to start the day alright, actually in a similar vein I've been dipping into System 7 a bit lately again, some really good stuff.

ahh the old Steve Hillage ... him along with Tangerine Dream and Yes made up much of the stoner music of my teens .. back when God was a boy.

Hillage did an interesting album with Evan Marc (Bluetech) back last year:

as an aside, some of the Bluetech stuff is pretty accomplished downtempo.

Oh to be a teen again and a stoner, I miss those days... Well, the stoner bit lingers on from time to time but without the same charm of being a teen, too many feckin responsibilities now!

Haven't heard of that album with Evan Marc, pretty good ratings on discogs but appears hard to get a copy from a quick glance around my usual sources...

I still haven't got 'Rainbow Dome Musick' from Hillage, been meaning to for a while.. I assume you have it? - Good I also assume?!

... had it on vinyl back in the day, somewhere I have it on CD but have not listened to it in years. I was a bigger fan of Live Herald (more prog rock I suppose) when it came out and still give that a spin every now and again.

The Bluetech solo stuff is better imho than his collab with Hillage.

    a particular fave is

Somnistore have legit copies of the mp3/flc downloads of the evan marc + steve hillage - dreamtime submersible http://www.somniasound.com/store.htm

so, was out tonight walking the dog, apres green, Freefloater on headphones and remembered this thread from awhile back.

Golly H.I.A. were a master-class in how to build a piece of music layer by layer. For example:

    Splendid stuff I reckon :)

Yeah that's a great track alright... HIA are certainly up there in my most listened to albums. Freefloater is one those old reliables for when I can't decide what to listen to. An album that can fit anytime of the day really!

    Colourform and S.H.A.D.O. for me.

While we're on a dub tip, does anyone remember the "Ambient Dub" series on Beyond Records? Was rooting through some of my cds the other day and found the first three volumes. Definitely worth getting.

There's a few youtube videos embedded in the Discogs site -

Don't have any of those Ambient Dub comps but have been meaning to grab them alright, ended up looking at them at a few times now on discogs.
