    Quick question.

When a Councillor has left office as a City or County Councillor, are they still entitled to call themselves, Councillor. I'm thinking here or ex-councillors who might still have political ambitions particularly.

If continuing to describe themselves as Councillors, even when not reelected, are they committing an offence?

    Thanks all

if they are not a councillor, then they are not a councillor

    seems simple to me

    as for an offence? hardly

I supposed I'm thinking along the lines of it being an offence to impersonate a member of the Gardai, a public servant. So would it be an offence to impersonate a holder of public office?

Sounds like an army officer who left many years ago but still call themselves by their rank.

I don't know the legal answer to your answer though. Legal forum might help?
