Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

VW Caddy towing capacity

I'm trying to find out what is correct towing capacity of vw caddy. Brochure from their site says its 1325-1500kg, but it also says that gross train weight is 3500kg. That confuses me a bit.

    F.e. 104 PS version unladen weight is 1491kg, payload - 724kg = 2215kg

gross train weight 3500kg-2215kg=1285kg left for the trailer, brochure states that towing capacity is 1425kg...

So am I missing something or what?

Btw, maybe someone knows what's the towing capacity of older caddy('00-'03)?

Strange alright. Have a look at the VIN/Chassis plate on your van, it lists what the vehicle is designed to tow.

Failing that, Alfaguy over on Octane.ie uses his Caddy to tow a car transporter, so he may be able to help.

the max is 3500 because of the vehicle class. your license only covers you up to that.

payload is what you can carry in the back.

I would imagine if you wanted to tow the full capacity, you're not to have a full load.

Make sure your trailer is braked btw.

I've emailed few vw dealers and RSA with my question. Got no reply from dealers, but I got a call from RSA. A lady from RSA told me the same as post above - I can tow up to 1500kg (or 1425kg like an example), but overall weight has to stay below 3500kg :)
