Question is in the title basically - how many years back can I claim rent relief? I was told it was 4 (making that back to 2005 if i'm not mistaken) but could someone please verify that?

    Thanks in advance!

That's correct and it applies generally to all claims for tax credits/ reviews etc you request- you can go back a maximum of 4 years.
The Revenue Commissioners, however, can go back as far as they wish if they are reviewing the accuracy of your tax returns

For claiming credits back 4 years.

For claiming double taxation relief- depends on the treaty.

In case of fraud Revenue can go back ten years.

In case of fraud Revenue can go back ten years.

I was involved in a recent Revenue audit case where they went back as far as 1979 so I would say there is no limit to how far they can go back
