Ordered this phone from phonesonline last week and I'm still waiting for it. I was told it'll be delivered today and when the doorbell rang I jumped for joy only to find it was a delivery of my silicone case and memory card for the phone I still don't have. DAMN IT I want my new phone.

Second delivery man just gone. Gigiddy I'm off to play.:D

I had just mailed HTC and o2 venting my frustration at my sim card problem,
then i gave it another try and noticed the little sim card picture and thought 'no, it couldnt be!!' sim card problem fixed!:o

First impressions are thats its an amazing device, but coming from only having owned fairly basic phones to this - its a big leap.
Using the touch screen is a bit figgidty for me, especially when texting (which takes bloody ages now)
I would say if you are a big texter on the move, then stick to normal phone keypads. Defo no more (carefully)texting while driving.

Is there any way to update the firmware without using p.c/laptop? My laptop has been acting up lately

You can install ROM's from your SD card, here's a nice little video to show you how

For texting you need to install swype :D

I used the phone keypad layout for texting on the HD2 and I have no issues. I adore the phone :D

if i install a custom firmware, i will lose my o2 menu on the phone? For instance i couldnt check my balance etc from the o2 icon?

Also what browser are people using? The i.e and opera that come with it are a bit annoying.
A lot of pages, for e.g- my hotmail page, are difficult to navigate and sometime the pages are HUGE.

And a lot of times the touch screen is very unresponsive, like when trying to click on a webpage link, or changing settings in the opera menu. Maybe opera mini/mobile would be better.

edit - how do i get the phone keypad layout angel01?

I'm pretty sure you'll lose this o2 menu if you install a new ROM

I'm using Opera Mobile 3 beta, it doesn't have the pinch zoom but the double click is perfect for me.

To switch to the phone key pad, press the little triangle that appears next to the keyboard symbol under the keyboard when typing. You may need to press a little to the right of the triangle to get the menu to appear.
    Here's a screenshot to help:

The new version has been redesigned for the HD2 amd it's at the bottom of this link.

    Edit:

I've only just installed the new HD2 version of swype and it's even better than the original version, the keys are a little bigger which makes it even easier to swype with! :D

The new version is on the right

Thanks for the responses, i have plenty of questions:D

How do you connect it to the pc/laptop, my current laptop is fairly old running on windows xp.
When i connect it through the usb cable it wont read the phone.
Im usually pretty tech savvy i swear..
The instructions with the phone arent very detailed

I'm running Windows 7 here but for Windows xp all you need is to install Activesync

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/activesync-download.mspx

If you can get it to work you should all so install mymobiler. It makes editing and moding the phone much easier as you can control it from your PC, you see it in my screenshots

Had a WinMo phone a few years back. Setting up and switching between WiFi and 3G was tricky and a PITA.

How is it in this UI ?

If you've got active sync setup on your pc its as easy as double clicking on the ROM's exe file, sit back, wait a couple of min's, then your done! :)

    Here's a Newb's guide to flashing ROM's :D

You can flash any HTC HD2, it doesn't matter which carrier its is or if the phone is sim locked.

For example if you download the Artemis ROM and extract the files you will get 2 files,

    SSPL_RUU.exe
    ruu_signed.nbh

Just connect your HD2 up to your PC with active sync, then run the SSPL_RUU.EXE file and follow the on screen instructions.

Unfortunately Swype from that link failed to work properly - when launched a pop up says "failed to launch US English" - had to remove.

    Try the original from xda-developers

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604949

You may need to install the original first? It's working fine for me

Almost everything should work, but there may be some conflicting stuff already in the ROM. It'll be safe to try any cabs anyway. If you experience problems, uninstall it and search the ROMs forum thread for the cabs name to see if there's a solution.

The only problem I'm having with other cabs is the Clock and Transparent Slider + 20 shortcuts. Everything else is working as it should, nice and fast

Stock O2 ROM, using it on Meteor.

The Twitter app keeps telling me my username / password is incorrect.

    Anyone else ?

Also, I downloaded Opera Mini but can't find it - where would it have ended up please ?

I downloaded activesynch and mymobiler, dont really know what im supposed to do with them?

I synched my 'favourites' and all it did was synch my phone favourites to my laptop favourites.

The mymobiler app - clicked >tools>mobile explorer - it brings up a page with my laptop documents on one side and list of folders on the other.
I presume this is where you drag and drop into your mobile device?
I dropped a video file from my laptop into the'video' file on the other side but ive no idea where the file goes?
Ill figure all this out..it'll just take time:D

If you sync your contacts, it will update your phone/pc with any changes you make.

You should have a little mymobiler icon down on your tray bar, double click that and your phone will appear on your monitor. Now you can use your mouse/keyboard to control your phone.
