Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lately everything is taking ages to load.
I've noticed this trend, although I've upgraded my internet connection to a much faster speed over the past few weeks/months the internet seems to be getting progressively slower.

Downloading speeds don't seem to change much but its the browsing/website loading time that has considerably slowed down since what it used to be a few months ago...

    Anyone else notice this lately??

Check the light occassionally on your modem.
If its flashing away even if your not using your own pc/laptop system(s) maybe someone nearby has tapped into you and draining your bandwidth?

    Are you password protected?

But you didnt think that it would get any worse, but there ya go, it does. My computer takes about five minutes to do anything!:(

    got password.

The download speeds haven't changed much (like when you download mp3, movies or watch youtube videos). Its only the loading time for websites and stuff thats gone slow... Wait for like 5-6 seconds for page to load sometime even more...

Oh and mine's a mac, so i don't think its got any viruses and its relatively fast considering its age. Its only the internet that's gone slow...

    * Go to "run" and enter "msconfig". See whats kicking in at startup and whats really not need to start up when you turn it on. It all helps to slow the system down and takes up RAM too.
    * Get a free temp file, etc system cleaner from download.com. That might help too.
    * Defrag the system.

Have you tried unplugging the modem at the box for a minute or two?
Refreshes the connection sometimes through your fixed IP address.

In both cases - its been known that service providers often do maintenance work in off peek, non-office times in selective area to areas.
If its still the same way during office hours tomorrow, consider ringing them and asking what the heck is going on.

I'll try that and see if it makes a difference....

Usually it doesn't but i'll give it another go...

I was thinking the internet in general is going slow cuz I noticed it a few other places too that web pages are taking longer to load than they used to a few months ago...

    Try installing Opera 10.
    (Has a turbo feature)

    www.opera.com

Maybe your net viewing tool is causing problems too.
Is an alternative the same speed?

Have you tried plugging it out and plugging it back in again?

No idea what you were speaking about in that last line...

But yeah opera seems to be slightly faster... Just slightly...

Got the same problem here ...but it's nothing to do with the computer or the internet.

It's the broadbogband. As more and more people log on in the evenings, the connection just goes to pot.

You may have a load of spyware crap slowing down your connection. Or maybe you put a tinfoil hat on your wireless router? Or maybe you should stop streaming pron 24/7.

My home pc is the same , when I switch on it takes at least 3, 4 minutes for home page to load before I can log on but once I am on, the pages like boards , load quick enough .It's just that slow waiting period to get on . I put that down to maybe having to much stuff in documents, pictures , etc .However on my lap top I am on in less than a minute

Have you tried hitting it? That usually fixes everything. ;)

Latchy just type in msconfig in the runbar. Go to the startup tab.
Untick anything there that's dumb. Google updater, adobe updater, that sort of stuff.

Your probably using Internet Explorer or Firefox as your default application to view the net.
An alternative tried, would help narrow down areas where your problem might be.

By the way, in the settings of Opera, there is a "switch" that might need to be turned on to make it even faster.
It depends on the default setting its installed at.

They're generally some combination of the number 6 and the number 9.

If its a mac you have then it's not a virus or spyware(or very very very unlikely to be). I would try Opera too. Very neat browser. Make sure you dont have skype or limewire or vuze starting up on log in. Go to system preferences Accounts Log in items and see whats in there. If thats fine and it's the same deal in firefox/safari/opera then look to the connection itself at that point.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Wibbs make a good point here. Also check (if one of the above is installed) if there is too many connection nodes configured.
They can play havoc with net connections if the settings are too high.
