09 Yamaha R125 - In NI - VAT + VRT ???

Hi guys,

I am looking at buying a 2009 reg Yamaha YZF R125 bike from Belfast. It has 2.5K miles on the clock and was registered in Jan '09.

I am wondering if I buy such bike,
1. Would I liable to pay VAT ?

I understand I would have to pay VRT to register the bike here, but not sure what the situation with VAT is...

Any advice / recommendations is greatly appreciated!

From the link : new car means a car that has been in service for 6 months or less, or has been driven for 6,000 kilometres or less. The VAT is payable even where you have paid VAT in the other country.

The rule applies to bikes too by the way.

VRT office will want your certificate of registration which will confirm the age of the bike and in my case 'asked' what the mileage was. So the fact that I drove to Wexford and Galway to get over the 6,000km line was not required :rolleyes: but they can ask to see the gauge to confirm the mileage.
