"mainly teenagers". Why was that even added in? Anyone who was there would have seen it was a total cross section of CCFC support, kids, teens, adults, pensioners. I saw fellas there who have been supporting City sice the start, I saw fellas there who started suppoting the club recently.

The funniest thing is, is that McHale was stood outside the Horseshoe looking on. He is the sports editor of the echo. Why did he allow that blatantly incorrect info get printed?

There was easily 500+ stood outside last night, some estimates go as high as 1000. I am crap at guestimating but I would have thought at least 3 hundred thousand.

The screw is turning on TC. I have heard that if he is involved in CCFC in any capacity come licensing time, no license will be awarded, not a 1st division or A Championship even. He has to go, and go now.

The echo have been a very good sponsor to CCFC over the years, so a boycott is silly talk.
    silly? good sponsors?

Didnt the Echo claim a few years ago that Mark Rutherford was racially abused, a complete and utter invention? What about it's attacks on City fans during the Arkaga era?
The Echo simply want to sell papers, they are no more or no less than any other sponsor.
the ridulous bias shown by that clown mchale suggests he hates any of the sporting public, the same sporting public who buy his rag and keep him in a job. I'm not buying the thing anymore, and I reckon quite a few others won't after last night too.

No match programme last night. The official line is "the game was initailly postponed after a 4pm pitch inspection, so when the 2nd pitch inspection happened, there was not time to finish off the print run". That is basically code for "we did not pay our bill, or the COD for the programmes. So, it was just a team sheet handed out.

    What fun.

Apparently the match programmes are going to be in black and white from now on as well.

    Well done FAI. Well done.

Well done Cork City. Well done.

I didn't think he would have the neck to do this after the bus incident and all the recent coverage in the Echo but he has.

The whole thing is just a mess.

    What is the guy doing?:(

The good news is that CCIFC is back at the high court Monday. At this stage it would be a mercy killing. Pity TC cannot get locked up for what he is doing.

Big questions have to be asked of the Examinership process as well. How in the name of God was TC seen as fit to take the club over? AFAIK he has not yet once paid everyone on time and in full

Cork refuse to train unless paid
    0 commentsby Alan Smith

Cork City players will refuse to train unless their wages are paid by the close of business today, though they've said tomorrow night's game with Bray Wanderers will not be under threat.

Despite club owner Tom Coughlan promising that the staff will receive their wages later today, it would be no suprise if the monies owed do not materialise given Coughlan's recent history with the club.

The players are set to meet PFAI chief Stephen McGuinness to discuss their next step as pressure continues to build behind the scenes. Just a paltry 1700 saw the Leesiders beat Derry City 2-0 on Tuesday night, as fans continue to boycott the club while Coughlan remains in charge.

In another blow to the club's owner, Cork are due back in the High Court to face another winding-up order on Monday, as Gareth Farrelly's case will be heard.

They should have gone on strike weeks ago tbh. Tom has been stringing the players and staff along for the last couple of months with his promises of payments.

This is the end of that club as you know it, but as many Rovers fans will say, all that crap ended up being one of the best things to ever happen to Rovers as it allowed the fans to take over.

Hopefully Cork fans can do the same.

Technically it's CCIFC that will go bust.

We may be able to set up a new club under the name CCFC.

Hopefully but yous really need to forfeit yourselfs from the League and start again, it's a disgrace.

Anyword from the fudge from PFAI yet?

Cork Hotspurs as i said at the start of the season!

New club fresh start, good bunch of fans, no mad wages (next time let the player go to pats/bohs/margate for his 4 grand a week)

Start in first or A for it to be right and move thru naturally (and quickly)

I wouldnt worry about the shels head(s), although i do miss going to shels games
no matter what their position; how many points they were winning the league by, there was always a great crowd

    in the away section:p

Certainly won't be in the First Division. Can't see anyone wanting to give their place up kindly to Cork.

What makes people think that any of the clubs will be in anything other than the Premier League next season?

Nothing the FAI has done or said in regards to this seasons scandals points to that outcome

    By Neil Ahern
    Friday October 09 2009
CORK CITY'S players were finally paid their outstanding wages installment yesterday -- but only after they had begun preparations to go on strike.

A ballot box was being set up in the dressing room to facilitate a vote for industrial action, after discussions over outstanding wages between PFAI secretary Stephen McGuinness and club representative Liam Meaney proved unsuccessful.

But as the players finalised their plans to go on strike next week, while also preparing a request for club owner Tom Coughlan to stand down, Meaney informed them that they would, after all, be paid.

"The PFAI can confirm that Cork City's players did want to ballot for industrial action but a club representative soon promised them that they would be paid by the evening, which they were, and as far as we are concerned everything is now back on track," said McGuinness.

While the strike action would not have affected the Leesiders' game against Bray Wanderers tonight, it would have put next week's encounter against Bohemians in serious doubt.

Cork City officials declined to comment when contacted yesterday.

Under a schedule of payments agreed last month, the players' are due to be paid the next installment of their wages on October 19 -- one day before their match against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght.

The club's problems don't end there, though, as they are due in court next Monday after former player Gareth Farrelly issued a winding-up petition over non-payment of a debt believed to be €36,000.

It is understood Farrelly has rejected the offer of a percentage of the money up front with the rest to be paid in installments.

    - Neil Ahern

    Irish Independent

Erm, have ALL the staff been paid, or just the players?

If history has taught us anything it's that when Tom promises a percentage followed by installments he means he'll pay around 20% and then not pay the installments. Farrelly was right to refuse.

What time is the hearing at?
Starts at 11:00, but it's number 10 on the list so maybe around 12:00. Same judge as last time.

Rumours that players will strike for the Shamrock Rovers game unless all monies owed to players are paid to all players by 4pm tomorrow.

Is tomorrow likely to be the end of Cork or is that unlikely?

Hopefully tomorrow will bring the end of CCIFL, but I wouldn't be too surprised if the winding up order is settled. If CCIFL dies, CCFC will rise from the ashes.

Yup, no CCFC representatives showed it seems. The hearing has been adjourned for a week ont he request of Gareth Farelly.

How many more lives do we have at this stage???

Would have been in Farelly's interest to go ahead without them i would have thought!?

Strikes me that he doesnt want to damage the club, he just wants his money

Well if the judge wound up the club, he would never get his money, so I doubt it was as hugely magnanimous as it sounds. Thats not to say I am not greatful though :p

    FORAS Statement from www.forastrust.ie
    14 October 2009 19:00

Protest on Friday 16th October 2009

Following on from yet another worrying appearance in the High Court last Monday, and due to the overwhelming demands of our members and supporters, we have acceded to their requests to hold a protest action at the Premier Division game against Bohemian FC on next Friday night, October 16th.

While we appreciate that some members may have concerns about this course of action we would stress that we have taken this decision in order to exert some control and order over the very real anger felt by members at Mr. Tom Coughlan and the serious concerns over his management of Cork City FC.

Having consulted the various stakeholders involved in Match Night organisation, and in the interests of safety, we feel the most suitable course of action will be a dignified sit down protest in the centre circle before the game commences.

The point of the protest is to highlight to the FAI that CCIFL under Mr. Coughlan are not suitable licence holders and should not be awarded a licence for next season.

The protest will also show solidarity and support for the proposed industrial action by the players, and will highlight the ongoing wage difficulties faced by our loyal players and staff. We also feel that this course of action gives supporters an opportunity to vent their anger, while continuing to support the players and staff financially, in the face of the increasing and understandable calls for a total boycott of all Cork City FC games while Mr. Coughlan remains at the club.

We ask protestors to access the pitch from the Curragh Road Stand only, follow the directions of FORAS BoM, Security and Gardai at all times, and to leave the pitch when requested. We want to remind all supporters that flares, smoke canisters and other prohibited items are not allowed under stadium regulations, and we ask that no offensive banners, slogans or chants are part of the action.

We appeal to all supporters to behave in a dignified manner and show that we will no longer tolerate the slow destruction of the club we love. We ask that those who wish to participate in the protest be in the Curragh Road Stand by 7.20 pm, bearing in mind that Friday’s game has a 7.35 pm kick-off.

    Regards,
    FORAS BoM

I do not quite understand - a protest which is being sanctioned by the Gardai and stewards? I imagine one or two will be on the pitch and absolutely nothing else will happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,056 ✭✭✭applehunter

    Protest has now been cancelled.

All over the news that the FAI are going to have a formal meeting with FORAS BOM tomorrow to discuss the licence for next season.

    Sounds positive.

The sooner we get back to discussing football the better.

    I fully support the protest.

Just make sure the team don't roll over on the pitch tonight though.

    Not until Tuesday anyway.

The protest has been postponed because it's aim has been achieved without setting a foot on the pitch.

Wait till next week to be sure. There were false reports on local radio last Monday that the case had been settled before they went to court. We all know what happened there....nobody from CCIFL bothered turning up and only for Farrelly wanting to get some of the money he's owed, he asked for an adjournment for one week.

Our u17 manager was sacked yesterday morning. He was interviewed on local radio redfm:

Sacked because of criticism he made of the club in an interview during the week.

    - The club have abandoned the youth and U-17s....

    - Training cancelled twice in the past few weeks due to money not paid for training facilities at Eire Og. Young players won't come near Cork City because of what is going on....

    - The club is in big trouble

    - No interest in keeping the underage structure going

    Depressing.

For the last 2 weeks the Evening Echo in Cork has been talking about how our results will effect our chances of European qualification.

Do they honestly think we will get a European license, never mind a premier division license.:o

Must do, sure how the f*ck did Drogs get a premier division license and sure ffs their stadium is still not to the FAI required standard even though the FAI agreed to fund the temp seating.
