Had an interesting walk last night in Castletown house Celbridge last night.
I was taken aback by the amount of people out walking dogs there.
Everyone seemed to know each other and before long myself and the Mutt were walking with or met the following dogs.
2x black labs,2 xGolden Retrievers,an Irish Wolfhound 2 x Long haired German Shepherds, an amazing Rhodesian ridgeback,3 Beagles,3 Boxers
There were another 6/8 dogs around aswell but don't know what they were.
Throw into the mix half a dozen kids running aroud aswell.
Some of the owners told me that last night was not the busiest not for dogs and that i should pay a visit midweek between 6.30pmand 8pm and there could be alot more dogs around.
Alot of these dogs also swim in the river together.
Anyone else been to Castletown house lately?

Yeah I go there with my two greyhounds about 4 or 5 times a week. There are always tons of dogs, its the best place in the area to go walking really.
It can get a bit chaotic sometimes, some of the dogs shouldn't be off lead at all, but most of them are fine, and the owners restrain them when you walk by if they're a bit feisty. Mine are always on lead so it can get a bit irritating having a constant supply of dogs running up and acting the maggot with my two!
Having said that, it is good craic, you'd get to know alot of people by seeing them all the time and I think we're really lucky to have Castletown! Wide open spaces, meadows, forest, a river, and a muddy pond, what more could a dog want! Hundreds of squirrels and rabbits to torment!
That's true too, Thursday nights at 7ish are always packed with people and dogs for some reason, as are Saturday / Sunday afternoons.

I'm just back from a walk there, there's a farmer's market of some sort and a brass band playing at the house. So loads of people sitting around in the grass eating ice-creams, and dogs pottering about.
Nice place to go today if you want your dog to get some socialisation with kids and strangers etc, very nice atmosphere and gorgeous weather! I had a crowd of kids clamouring to pet my dogs and lots of people asking about them.

I dont have a dog but recently moved to Celbridge and finding it really difficult to get to know people locally. Living in Castletown and most of the people are much older, would any of you have suggestions?

You don't say what age bracket you are in.If you get a dog you will meet plenty of people in Castletown to walk with, but i don't think your friendship will go ouitside the gates of Castletown.
Have you tried the local Camera club.I believe they meet every Monday evening in the gate lodge of Castletown house.
Might be worth a try if you have a camera.

Up there alot during the summer, tho not so much now its dark early.

Has anyone gone walking around Donadea Forest. Thats just so pretty, especially around this time. The leaves pave the way. Though you need wellies and make sure you're ready to wash the dogs when you get home...well if the dogs are anything like my two!!! (plough right through the muckiest areas:rolleyes:)
