Is Eircom getting desperate? They are now giving line rental away for free for 10 months to people who have a line that has been inactive for more then a year:

The line cancels most have been increasing even further since their last report.

lol yeah definitely desperate. They must be starting to realise the game is up.

Hopefully they get bought out and someone actually invests in the network.

Even if you do pay their prices, does anybody want their censored (pirate bay blocking), unstable (recent DNS problems line quality problems) service?

They need to get their act together.

UPC must be murdering them ! Look at the promotion on 24mbit for 3 months out of 6 months contract .

    3 months @ €50 + 3 months @ €120 = €85 average .

eircom broadband business lite plus (14) ex vat inc vat
    3072kbps Downstream / 384kbps Upstream 30GB Unlimited €24.79 €30.11 €24.69 €30.00
    business Advanced
    24576kbps Downstream / 1024kbps Upstream Unlimited Unlimited €99.00 €120.29 €41.15 €50.00

Absolutely is the case. Well done I say. Makes sense in relation to the NGA posturing that's going on at the moment.

Yes, I've been expecting that Eircoms response to UPC's 20mb/s product and upcoming 30/60/90/120 mb/s DOCSIS3 products will be to sell "upto" 24mb/s BB as their standard entry level product.

IoffL have been warning that the exorbitant line rental prices will kill eircom.
It's becoming increasingly obvious now that this is the case.
The problem is that they (eircom) can't compete and really need to drop their prices to the EU norm...

UPC is exactly half the price of equivalent eircom offerings.

eircom are running a number of offers in parallel , including free line connection free dsl connection and free dsl modem and 6 month minimum contract . Pseudo Naked DSL in effect :)
THEREFORE you need only pay for a 1mbit or 3mbit DSL on top of that €0 line rental .

Total 10 month costs in Bold

    10 Month Line Rental €0 + 10 month 1mbit DSL = 10 x €25.09 or €250.90
    10 Month Line Rental €0 + 10 Month 3mbit DSL = 3m x €30 + 7m x €30.11 or €300.77

Total 12 month costs in Bold

    12 Month Line Rental (10m x €0 + 2m x €25.47) + (12 month 1mbit DSL = 12 x €25.09) or €301.08
    12 Month Line Rental (10m x €0 + 2m x €25.47) + (12 Month 3mbit DSL = 3m x €30 + 9m x €30.11) or €411.93

    http://www.eircom.ie/About/Activitie...cial_offer.pdf

The 12 Month TCO for 3mbits works out at aound €34.33 a month total inc vat if you reconnect a line in Dublin and provision 3mbit DSL on it and that is not a bundle but a 6 month contract DSL .

The special line rental offer does not apply outside Dublin at this time, it comes into effect next year .

What's the acquisition cost though? ;)

The trick is not the package is the cost to reconnect to copper from cable etc.

TCO means just that Tom , line connections ( new cable or in situ) are free until March 2010 , dsl connections are free with free modem if ordered online. All you do is pay for the BB every month .

The 'special' line rental deal applies to lines ceased on or before 31 dec 2008 in Dublin ...generally because the customer has buggered off to mobile or cable
