Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I ****ing hated seeing him run at us when he had the ball, superb close control.

Getting his head right it seems now, mowbray seems to be getting the best
out of him. he will run amok in scotland if kept fit.

As you say, anybody who has seen Paddy play over here knows that that is just classic McCourt. Although it was woeful defending, that last shimmy before he took the goal..... :)

Hope Mowbray's comments after the game about him were more designed to further gee Paddy up, and not meant to indicate that he doesn't really rate him.

He wouldn't be on the pitch if Mobray didn't rate him.

It's all well and good picking him for the Falkirk and St Mirren games. The real test as to how much Mowbray rates him will come in the coming weeks when Celtic play against better opposition. Will be interesting to see if he keeps his place this evening.

Hopefully this will continue, so. Especially if he keeps his fitness up.

This is why I mentioned it.

IIRC, Mowbray seemed to be saying, don't expect him to be included all the time and that he needed to round out his game. Just wondered if it was to gee him up and puncture any complacency, or warn the supporters that he won't be a mainstay just because he's such a crowd-pleaser.

As said, it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

Nice goal from McCourt but Best's goal is in a different league

Not sure anybody is saying that McCourt is a better player. Just that he's also an out-and-out dribbler and crowd-pleaser and it's nice to see.

Pretty sure the OP isn't asking us to choose which player is better! Just pointing out the similarities of both goals.

McCourt's goal was better imo, at least one of the defenders tried to tackle him, unlike Best's.

Best is the greatest footballer that ever played(IMO!), and he was far better than McCourt could ever be, but they do have some similarities in running with the ball and going past people etc.

If thats trying to tackle someone then I have been watching a different sport all these years.

Yes it was a good goal but woeful defending

When he joined them I thought they only signed him to tear into very weak Scottish teams tbh

And if that is the case, what harm!?

Them again, there are no Strong Scottish teams

He was very inconsistent when he played here. Sadly it's hard to say if he'll ever be able to put out performances on a consistent basis at a higher level and deservedly hold a long term place in the team.

His goals against Bray(on youtube iirc) were better.

Also, the argument about desperate defending has weaknesses, mainly because there were 10 other Celtic players on the pitch who weren't running all over their opposition. A good point on the Celtic forums made, was that his old school, shimmy and dribble style, make defenders look stupid.

Take out Celtic and Rangers and its not that much of a step up tbh
    (if at all)

It's not that much of a step up(probably isn't a step up) when you compare the top half of the Eircom League, to the bottom half of the SPL.

You can't realistically compare teams like Bray or Drogheda(teams made up of youths who missed out on youth contracts in England and Eircom league players who are passed it) to any team in the SPL.
Top Leinster Senior League teams wouldn't be far off the pace of the bottom LOI clubs.

So you agree with me but then take a tangent?:P

Fail to see where i mentioned the bottom of the LOI

some people read stuff on here that they agree with and look for an angle to go off on:o:rolleyes:

As for LSL, its a step to LOI, very little difference to first division (possibly better:eek:)

defo seen by some players as better off playing LSL, little travel and working
than playing first division, working and travelling round country to empty stadiums

What are you on about?

You said removing Celtic and Rangers would leave the SPL as "not that much of a step up tbh(if at all)" for Pat McCourt.
The only teams the SPL wouldn't be that much of a step up for, would be the top 2/3 teams in the LOI. The standard, or the majority of fixtures McCourt would have been playing for Derry and for Rovers, were against teams not in the top 2/3 of the LOI. It was against the mid to lower reaches of the table.

He wasn't very consistent against them, his form was even more erratic against the top teams here. The general standard of our top league versus theirs, is quite a bit of a step up.

No, I didn't agree with you and take a tangent, I took a tangent to briefly agree with part of the point you were making and then continued on to disagree with you.:)

I'd swear some people suffer from paranoia here and an addiction to emoticons...
