    Hi

I am a 27 years old german citizen, living in Ireland for last year.

Just want to know if somebody doing Multimedia.
I have some questions, if somebody can help me to get out of them.

Does Multimedia course suits mature students ?

I am confused which course to take either Design Communication or Multimedia.
I have 3 years experience working for some companies in Germany in field designing, layout, magazines and Books. But i have great interest in Web designing, programming and new technology as well.

What are the timings of attending the course in both courses (Design Communication and Multimedia) , do i have to attend full time?

Is there any creche or childcare facility near Institute, so i can leave my daughter there?

    thanks in advance

    Mrs M.

Q1. Yes. Having already graduated Electronic Engineering in 2001, I went back to study Multimedia two years ago when I was 28. Granted everyone is much younger but I found I had more of an interest to learn this time round. The lecturers and staff in the Department are extremely friendly and helpful.

Q2. This question can only be answered by you. Personally, I had little interest in Electronic Eng after graduation as I found that I had an interest in Graphic Design and Multimedia while I volunteered with the student magazine. I worked for 7yrs in Graphic Design before I started Multimedia and I did Multimedia as I wanted to expand my training to new areas. Multimedia is run 50/50 with a German University which may be of benefit to you if you would like to do some modules in Germany. I would recommend that you discuss this with the Department staff before you apply. Also visit http://modules.cit.ie/ for detailed information on each module subject.

Q3. Click here for Multimedia Timetable for First Years
Click here for Print Media Timetable for First Years
These courses are only run during the day and are not offered by night at present. You can apply to do them by ACCS which means you spread your studies over a longer period, which I have done. You can also apply for RPL which gives you recognition for any previous experience you have so you can skip certain modules if applicable.

Q4. Yes, I have 6yr old triplets who needed childcare when I first started. There are no childcare facilities at CIT but there are several creches and good schools in the area. Childcare is expensive (I know!) but you might be able to apply for financial assistance depending on your circumstances.

The academic year has already started and I am unsure if there are any places available this year or if you need to apply next year. I would recommend that you contact the college immediately to find out.

I would also recommend that you contact the college directly for advice as they can provide you with the most accurate information. They can also advise you on how much it will cost to study.

Thanks a lot for useful information and answers.

one question: for example if i take ACCS system, will be my timetable shorter than others? Or is it something different?

    Thanks very much

The timetable remains the same but you will be doing less modules. i.e. You do half of first year modules in sept 2009 and then repeat first year again in sept 2010 doing the other half. This way takes twice as long as normal but you get the same qualification. You can increase or decrease the amount of modules you want to do.

That means that if I take less modules I can attend only these classes, which I have selected ? am I right?

you select the modules (subjects) you wish to complete in a year and finish the remaining in the following year(s).

    ok, thanks for replying.

I am a bit confused, if I take Design communication, will be my work more as "hand creative work" ? :o actually I want to do more practical work on computer.

    Kind regards

Multimedia would have more work on computers compared to design communications. Eitherway before you decide please contact the department who can give you all the answers you need and will be able to talk to you to see what is best for you.
