I have a 5yr old Packard bell which I find ok but i want to upgrade the 15 inch monitor to a larger size. Iwas looking at monitors on at Pixmania and thought this seemed quite good.
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/2350317/art/samsung/2494hm-syncmaster-24-wide.html

I am unsure if this is any good or not - but it does match my price range! Anyone have any expeience of these, is it ok for price or should I look else where?

    thanks for advice

On your old Packtard Bell there prob won't be anything more than a vga on it!
There is also a high probability that it won't even support that monitors resolution....

You should check these things out! You should also check out this...

I just checked and my adopter ois a Radeon Xpress 200. The max resolution seems to be 1280 x 1024.
I assume this means thgat if I want more than this I need to upgrade the video card.

Well it seems to say here http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/chipsets/radeon-xpress-200M/Pages/ati-radeon-express-200m-amd-specs.aspx that your card would support a higher resolution. You might be just reading the highest resolution that your current screen can give out, which sounds about right actually!

I'd prefer someone else to clarify this however

The maximum resolution the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 can output via VGA is 1600 x 1200. Is VGA the only output on the back of your PC?

Although you linked to the mobile version of the Radeon Xpress 200, the maximum resolution it is capable of outputting via VGA is still the same.

    aha see that now

The op could still get a much larger monitor but past a certain point the quality of the image will go down as the screen will have to expand the image.

If you still want to get a new monitor, then get one with only a slightly larger, the same or lower resolution of the max resolution graphcis card so the image isn't too distorted!
