Asbestos roofing tiles?

hi, we have a house built early eighties, that is tiled with purple slates - they are not made of stone and appear to be man made. when broken you can see small hairs in it - is it likely to contain asbestos? if it is where in ireland can i get it tested and how much will it cost approximatly?? thanks FT
