I was at the Frontline show...as people arrived RTE split them up into Public and Private sector and sent them to different rooms beforehand.

FF had Mc Carthy on tv taking the flak. Some of the public sector people were very angry with him. Waste of energy. Bertie, Lenihan, Cowen etc are the ones to get angry with.

Another victory over the people. While we are at each others throats people like Molloy walk away with millions.

Before we even start at the average public sector employee we need to straighten them out. Tackle the "jobs for the boys" quangos:

    What does this quango do?

Best blog here in my opinion, it is terrible to see worker pitted against each other while the big boys sit laughing. There has been terrible propaganda against public sector workers but you are right there has been a huge number of wasteful agencies etc , jobs for the boys skewing the pay bill. This blog really shows that in a very concrete way. The Frontline programme deliberately set people up to respond to each other in a hostile manner. Pat Kenny and his team are only interested in an exciting programme and not a worthwhile debate. I know somebody who agreed to discuss issues on the show to discover that this was not what was to happen on air. The person threatened to go after PK and his salary live on air if wishes not respected, the real nasty individuals were the media exploiting people!!!!!

As we all know, there are over 400k people currently on the live register claiming €204 per week. That is equivalent to €81 million per week, or €4.2 billion a year. That’s a lot of money to be paying out and nothing in return.

My mad idea would give everybody on the live register a job working for the Government, after all it is the Government who are paying their cheque every week. My idea would involve every person that is on jobseeker allowance (€204 per week)to work a 4 day week, Monday to Thursday from 10am to 1pm. That is equal to 3 hours a day and 12 hours a week. Failure to show up at your work-point on a given day would incur a €26 reduction in your take-home pay at the end of the week. Basically the same rate of pay as a person on minimum wage. So it would be in the person best interest to show up for duty. The afternoon of each day as well as Friday can be used to search for a job.

Since people would be working for the Government, job could include keeping Ireland tidy such as sweeping the streets, ensuring the streets are litter free, removal of graffiti on buildings, potholes filled in rural communities, etc.

It is only a thought, it is a wonder it wasn’t included in the McCarthy report. This way everybody is making some kind of contribution

great idea but its so good they wouldn't use it. Also Health and Safety wouldn't allow it.

I loved Mary O' Rourke standing up for the "Decent people" in FF.
This is one thing that party members can never seem to get their heads around:

I'm sure there's plenty of decent FF members/TD's, it's just your support/blindness to certain people's corruption and illegal activities that's the problem and it's what makes people see the party as a whole (and rightly so) as corrupt to the core.
