    Hi All,

Is there somewhere else besides the Eyre Square shopping center (It's a pain for parking) where they re-heal shoes?

    Thank you.

There used to be a fella on the corner of St.Enda's Road and Willow Park in Shantalla who had/has a very good reputation. Dunno if he is still around though.

People reheeling shoes is a sign of the recession..

There's a shoe repair shop opposite Ernies, Jes Church on Sea Road. James Heffernans.

The dude in Shantalla is well expensive, I'd avoid tbh.

Would deffo recommend James Heffernan on Sea road, or there's another really good guy in Mervue, beside the Supermarket, who cuts keys aswell.

FYI the guy in Sea road and the guy in Mervue are both hearing and speech impaired(I don't think it's PC to say deaf and dumb anymore). Just so you know going in. James Heffernan seems to lip read pretty well. and you can get by with hand signals with him. With the guy in Mervue it's best to have what you want done written down on a card, and he'll write his answers back to you. They're both very good and price wise much the same. Both do a way better job than the crew in the shopping centre.

    Hope this helps.

    MR.

James Heffernan is probably one of the nicest men in Galway, he will do everything possible to help you. Thoroughly recommend him

yeah, I've always gone to him. he's been able to resole engineer boots etc that I don't think a lesser repair shop could do. Also built a sturdier sole for a pair of moccassin boots I bought and weren't very street friendly til these soles were added. Now much better.
Always think of him as a craftsman and craftsmen should be the ones to take business to. Genuinely seems to do the best job possible at all times.

He has a young assistant, (possibly his son?) who is fully hearing/talking if you're put off by his own muteness. You shouldn't be since he is very amenable himself.
I think he has one quirk about time, like he doesn't open on a Monday or something.
But I do think he's done jobs for me that newer non specialist shops would refuse because they hadn't got the skill.

I haven't been to the guy in Mervue since I've always gone to Heffernan.

Talking about hearing impaired craftsmen, I should extol the tailor on Middle Street above the restaurant next to the Church. Very good.
