    Its not because teachers work shorter hours abroad ; our school holidays etc are amongst the longest in the world. eg the OECD average is 1200 hours worked per year, in Ireland its 735

    This is complete bollix and is indicative of the willingness of some people here to post complete lies to support their predjudices. Fianna Fáil are in the ha'penny place when compared to some of the people posting falsehoods on this forum.

    In fact in Ireland is just above midway on the hours and primary is quite a bit above the average, almost 20% above. Perhaps hours could be increased at second level, but the idea that there is some sort disgraceful shortfall is not correct.
