why why don't people back up !!!!!!!

in this day and age its amazing the amount of people who never think of backing up ..... until the worst happens!!

Because generally the people who get viruses wouldn't know what an external hard drive does and/or wouldn't know how to backup the files

Nothing like bitter painful experience of losing all your photos, or all your business files or accounts to sharpen your IT awareness.

Even the idea of someone breaking in and stealing their laptop, backup drive (if kept beside laptop) then looking through all the data doesn't cross the minds of most.

Man this winds me up. As an IT expert I'm amazed at this approach yet 80% of companies do it.

It's the equivalent of calling the guards because your kid is missing and them bringing you some other kid. Then, just in case, shooting your own kid in the head when they turned up.

I am 'fixing' a PC that has had the disk controller destroy most of the data, still managed to save the womans family snaps etc. Takes minutes if you are careful.

Yeah, it bugged the hell out of me too, I could have done that straight off and saved myself hours. Lol at the kid analogy, though I think it's more taking your sick kid to hospital, they shoot him and give you another one.

    Hi there Mary

Just in reply to your post in relation to how you were treated by this company. A good friend of mine had a similar experiences with the same company and with the owner who made similar suggestive comments to her when he came to fix her computer in her home. She was horrifed at the unprofessional way that an owner of a company would run his business. I know of another girl who went into this company looking for directions when she got lost and also had an experience of having suggestive comments being thrown at her by again the owner of the company, she knew this because during the course of the conversation he volunteered this information that he was indeed the owner.

As far asI am aware if you look up their name you will notice that this company is being partly funded I think by, the Coolock Northside Partnership, these may be the people to get on to to complain if you feel that as he was the owner that you had no other way to make a complaint. Otherwise like the other poster suggested call the Joe Duffy show,as I'm sure there are more people like yourself and my two friends who have had similar experiences who need to expose this kind of discusting unacceptable behaviour.

Oh yes and just to say that some people answering this thread seem to be missing the point in my opnion. Its not the cost of fixing the computer or suggesting having your computer backed up,it how this lady was treated by what is meant to be a professionally run company.

We recently had a problem with our internet in the house.
After calling our service provider they assured us that everything was ok at their end,so we decided to call the <SNIP>.The man said that they could come that day which was great.Approx 1 hour later a large man arrived in a jeep.He immediately introduced himself by saying ''Hello'' in the most sleazy way possible. He then said something along the lines of my top being very tight.I immediately felt uneasy about this mans presence in my home.He asked to see the computer which was in the front room.I then showed him the way into the front room, when he asked 'did we have any food'.I was glad to get away and into the kitchen.Whilst there I rang my husband to ask how long he would be as I felt very uncomfortable, however I didnt mention that there was a problem as he would have hit the roof.He said he was on the way home.I then brought the Man in a sandwich,
and he continued to flirt with me uncontrollably. I tried to divert his attention and asked him had he been doing this for a long time. When he told me that he owned the company.I couldnt beleive it.He came to the conclusion ''that it must be a vrus from all that dirty porn we must have been watching''.My jaw hit the floor. I was absolutely stunned by this remark. He then said that he would have to take it away as it would take too long to fix at the house. He said that they give free diagnosis and would call before doing anything with the cost.At this stage I didnt care I just wanted him out.so he proceeded to take the wires out when my husband pulled into the garden with my teenage son.
As the <SNIP>. was leaving, himself and my husband passed at the door when my husband asked what the problem was. He replied that it had a virus and asked my teenage son, ''was he watching gay porn''.My son went purple with embarresment. My husband was stunned by this also. That evening my husband and I ended up having a heated discution about what had happened and why I didnt ask him to leave.Looking back now I should have.Anyway 3 days later I got a call from somebody at <SNIP> saying that my computer was ready and the cost would be 180 euro.150 for virus removal and 30 call out.I then told them that i was supposed to be called with a diagnosis and cost .The guy on the phone told me that they could put the virus back on if i didnt want to go ahead.I eventually agreed to this price which I felt was very high as the computer was running perfectly apart from not going online. They said that the technician would call out to the house with the computer.I told them that it was ok I would go there as the last thing I would ever want is that man back at my door.so all in all my experience with these people was absolutely horrific. And my question is who do I complain to ? as this was the owner of the company.

I think its incredibly considerate of you to format your post in the exact same way as Mary, without leaving any spaces after full stops or commas, just so she would be able to understand it better. What a kind samaritan you are. Bless you.

Edit: Of course this was more obvious before you edited your post to put in spaces. You missed several however. Your edit reason of "to remove company name" is a blatant lie because you did not mention any company in your original post.

Actually I only saw the thread today, why do you ask??? I don't understand your question. As for knowing if its the same company, the man who called to my friend was also a large guy and arrived in a jeep and my friend had similar experiences. So thats why i posted this not because I know Mary OS.

If you compare the two posts, you'll realise that both the posters have difficulties putting spaces after commas and full stops.

Infact, before you quoted Solar's post, it was entirely in block format, no paragraphs or anything. She then edited to reformat the paragraphs and add spaces after her full-stops and commas.

The fact that Solar knew that thi thread was about the same company speaks volumes.

I would like to remind posters that if they have a problem with a post, then use the "report post" functionality. Leave it to the moderators to handle the problems.

I do find it funny that solar11 knew the name of the company in question, despite the fact that I removed all reference to it some time earlier. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread going forwards.

Dudara, if its possible for mods to do so, I suggest you check Solar11's original post before it was edited. He/She tried to fix all the spacing errors that were similar to the OPs (Mary) post, and gave the edit reason as "Removing company name". If you can look at the original post, you'll find that there was no company name there to begin with which prove its a lie.

Edit: Just saw your above post. N/M

The original post contains the company name. The edit reason you mention, is in fact my edit reason, not the OP's.

Also suggest you edit out the reference to a partnership in post#35.

As previously stated, please use the "report post" functionality, rather than clogging up a thread with off-topic posts.

This thread has run its course. Thread locked.
