An Aerial Symbol Question

Hi Guys Most Windows Mobile devices will have aerial sigal meter on top of screen. I know depending on device you can get E or G beside your aerial symbol. for Edge / 3G. But alot of times you will see a large E with a smaller E appearing beside this. Can you tell me what this means, it is racking my brain Cheers:D
