Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

€75 for 1 Peugeot 206 tyre. Rip off?

    Hi,
Friend had a dodgy back tyre with a slow puncture. Car was dropped to car garage (not a tyre centre) and they said it had a slit or something and couldn't be repaired so had to be replaced and said they couldn't do it until tomorrow so they kept the car but it will be €75 for the job

Now I know I forked out much more than that for some Michelin tyres per corner for my van, but they are much bigger, reinforced etc and I think I ordered two basic ones from the UK without fitting for about €60 each.

The tyres on the 206 are tiny so this seems pretty excessive and I would have thought they'd stock this kind of size always so for it to be kept overnight is a bit annoying too.

So is €75 reasonable or a rip off I wonder? Any feedback appreciated :)

Imo all garages are a rip off..

I imagine it's not a good tyre which is why I'm sceptical :P Just seems a bit expensive for a new regular sized tyre :o The garage was the closest place, it was running kinda flat and close to their work which they had to walk to without the car

it dosent seem that bad tbh,a tyre for my saxo was €55,im not sure what make it is though, definetly not a well known brand, and my cousin fitted it so i dont think he charged me for the fitting
what size tyres are they on the 206?

and they dont need it overnight it only takes 5 minutes!

edit:they may have ordered the tyre and be getting it tomorrow so they kept it overnight

actually a back tyre for my moped (a few years ago) was €68!!

I bought a tyre for my S40, 205/50/R17 off www.camskill.co.uk and it cost €75. Falken brand and had it fitted and balanced locally for €10.

Unless it is a top of the range tyre I think €75 is very expensive for a 206 which probably has 14" or 15" wheels.

I put 4 of those second hand tyres on an escort I was going to be using for 2 weeks while I was between cars. They were awful, never again, not even for a day. The car was going to the breakers when I was finished with it because the NCT was just out and it needed a new power steering rack

50 sounds about right and what I would expect it to be on a 206. I doubt they are talking about fitting a top quality tyre for €75. Probably much the same as the one for €50!

Garage are adding their cut onto it. Anytime I've had a car in for a service and they ring saying the tyres need doing the quotes are always higher than sorting it yourself. Usually crappy ones too

always wondered about the pricing of tyres.

I have a company car and fit Bridgestone turanzas 215/55 R16 to mondeo. Price is usually 140 or thereabouts per tyre in most quotes. I prefer the lifetime and grip combination for this tyre.

Our family avensis has 205/55 R16 Bridgestone Turanzas and they were 100 per tyre in most places.

So for 10mm extra width it cost me an extra 40 per tyre.

To OP, never let the garage servicing your car replace a tyre. Cost you a fortune for junk.

Edit: Should have added that speed rating was same on each tyre (H)

Car was collected today and the first thing they said before we said anything was "it's actually cheaper than I told you". It was €58 altogether so that's fair enough even if the tyre isn't the best I guess :)

what sort of craziness thinks that 'small' tyres are cheaper than 'big' tyres ?

If that were the case, 1.0 cars would be half the price of 2.0. Obviously, they're not.........
