Can I buy a new SIM card with specific number?

Hey, Just wondering if its possible to get a PAYG SIM (any operator) and ask for your own number? Its nothing special like 087-1234567 its more like 08?-7803382 but I want a specific number? I've not had chance to get into town to ask any of the vendors, so said I would ask around here first, see if anybody knows? Thanks,…

they are known as 'golden' numbers, they are pretty hard to get off the retail outlets.

i know O2 have a service called 'name your number' where your number starts +353 (0)86 72XXXXX and you can pick the X's as long as the combination hasn't been taken.
