Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone serviced a Lexus is220d theirselves?

Just wondering is there anything more complicated in it than other cars? Oil, oil filter, fuel filter, etc.

Can't be any more complicated than an Avensis. Check out the UK Toyota owners club website - there's bound to be a few 2.2 diesel owners there. I've read different techniques for replacing the fuel filter so its worth reading up on that aspect. The rest should be straightforward.

I have done a few lets say, oil filter is a paper element underneath which is opened by a lexus tool and fuel filter is due every 75,000 and is located above the rear axle and can be tricky, an now they take a special low sulfur oil. Everything else is straight forward, but Id recommend a dealer, as you miss out on ecu software upgrades which are released regularly which tweaks any problems.

OP watch out for the fuel filter, it's over the rear axle and a slightly difficult to get to. Make sure after you replace the filter insert that you have replaced the seal that was given and that everything is tightened up again after you're done...

    Opps, beaten to it!

The IS220d is going to be the latest model - a pretty expensive piece of kit. I know it's recessionary times but surely getting a dealer or some sort of Toyota specialist is better than DIY? I'd say if you ring around you'd get a reasonable deal, garages are keen to do business.

As mentioned above, ECU software upgrades or known problems are sometimes checked by a good dealer and if the car is still relatively new it might be worth the ramp-and-stamp.

I just think we Irish skimp on servicing, especially compared to the Brits where a FSH is the norm. I don't think I've even been asked about service history when I've traded in (which probably contradicts the point i'm trying to make!)

I'm lucky enough to have an income at the moment so I don't want to sound like a smart-ass, I don't know the circumstances. A recent Lexus + DIY servicing just seems a bit fur-coat-and-no-knickers...

Even if its out of warranty you may have an expensive issue that Lexus will make a goodwill payment towards provided that you've got a full history with (at the minimum) a VAT registered garage and preferably a Lexus dealership. When a modern diesel goes wrong it gets very, very expensive making any servicing savings pale into insignificance.

TBH the hassle of changing that fuel filter would put me off straight away.

Boards is riddled with tales of turbo or dual mass flywheel failures and the resultant expense is eye watering. Toyota have had some failures of the years (VVTi cylinder wear & Avensis diesel 5 speed gearbox failure) both of which attracted goodwill/complete payment well outside warranty.

Have a read of this just as food for thought:

shows one of the benefits of main dealer servicing

OK, thanks for all the replies lads. I think I'll get someone else to do it, it's just that I live a long distance from a main dealer.
