Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My prediction for United, no idea what Sunderland's first 11 so someone can take a guess at that.

    Foster
    O'Shea---Rio
    Vidic----Evra
    Valencia--Fletch--Scholes--Nani
    Rooney---Berbatov----

fair point, especially when up against

    reid----cattermole
    cana
    malbranque

    They'll be badly outclassed alright.

In all fairness Scholes is far from poor, even at this age

I do think Scholes and Fletcher will have a tough test against Cana and Cattermole, if Cattermole is passed fit.

Valencia can take advantage of maybe Richardson having to be played at left back for Sunderland again,

I've a feeling Bruce will go for Jones and Bent in this one, he might be tempted to go to 4-5-1 with it being at old trafford, but definetly not if Cattermole doesn't make it.

Will be a tough game for United with Sunderland's front line and central midfield.

    Famous last words.

Give scholesy any space in midfield and he'll tear Sunderland apart.

Hope we aint relying on a last minute winner from Vidic this time round!
Was at this match last year and my heart really didnt need that stress...

doubt Sunderland will play 11 players on their goalline this year so should be a better game...

Kuszczak or Foster??? I would go with Kuszczak today

scholes is nowhere near the player he once was he had a good game recently so everyone forgets how poor he has been over the past year.

valencia and nani have none feckall of note this season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,369 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    tough enough game for utd.

but i think the fact sunderland will show more ambition than last year under Spragia will work to utd's favour.

if scholes is given room, he could kill Sunderland; which is why Cattermole's fitness will be a key factor imo. as shown against Stoke, Scholes can still pull the strings if given enough freedom.

nani to frustrate again, but valencia to show more of his quality.

my prediction...early goal from berba, turning into a 3-1 win. berba with another, scholes, and jones with a consolation.

please may i be wrong though ;)

    g'wan the sunderland!

I don't think Steve Bruce ever disgraces himself against the top sides, so I think his team are in with a shout here for a point. However it will be good night and good luck if Man U get an early goal.

It'll be Foster in goal for sure. Fergie said it during the week at some stage.

    2-0 United for me.

    1-0, Giggs free kick.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

Giggs to score and get 72 assists.

Scholes to score a screamer from within his own 18 yard box.

    Wellbeck starts

    Foster

    O Shea
    Ferdiand
    Vidic
    Evra

    Nani
    Wellbeck
    Fletcher
    Scholes

    Berbatov
    Rooney

Scholes to score a screamer from within his own 18 yard box.

Confusion in the sunderland box leads to foster scoring from a throw out.

Good to see welbeck on the wing.

Nani on the right is much better, I'll go for him to be man of the match

    Wellbeck is a chameleon.

he can play 2 positions RW and striker

im happy with that line up

Not too shabby a line up at all.

What time does coverage on ESPN start? (note that I'm not asking for the KO time!)

if as Headshot says he play RW or upfront then surely Nani will be on the left not the right

Very interesting to see Welbeck start, but I do find it a bit odd.

Valencia is a player that needs games to get settled in the side and get his confidence and form up.

Should be a good watch though. hopefully there is a decent stream for it.

Also hope berbatov kicks on from his performance on Wednesday night.

Sunderland: Gordon, Bardsley, Turner, Ferdinand, Richardson, Malbranque, Cana, Cattermole, Reid, Bent, Jones

Subs: Fulop, McCartney, Nosworthy, Campbell, Henderson, Da Silva, Healy

Foster to have have Gordon's long clearance bounce over his head but hit the crossbar and roll through Sunderland's defence and into the goal while Gordon has already gone off celebrating!

I think Fergie tends to play him on the left. Interesting selection.

wellbeck must be one of the most one footed players in the league, most likely, rooney will drop back a bit out of frustration, and take his position. Hopefully nani will do well from being on his right side for a change.

I nearly feel dirty but I sort of do too. That past 18 months have been extremely disappointing compared to his performances at Spurs. I thought that he played very well during the week and the RTE panel slating him really annoyed me. Add to that his comments during the week and I am sort of starting to feel for him a little.

Mind you, after the fuss that was made about Robbie Keane, would quite enjoy it if, 18 months on, he is still struggling to get going.

i see what your saying you kind of feel sorry for the player and you kind of like him, but you'd still enjoy the chance to rub it in united fans face if he struggles..

Good to see Welbeck start on the left (I presume). I think he could be really effective there with his Henry-esque cuts inside. Would prefer to see Nani dropped (for life) but you can't have everything.

Brave move not having Giggs in the squad.

Who's on the bench that can make an impact should things not go swimmingly?

Backed Sunderland to win 1-0 at 69/1.
