Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The 9 year old me didn't have a clue where I'd be now.

The 19 year old me has no idea where I'll be in 10 years time and the thought of being another 10 years older is terrifying.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭liah

    I doubt it. I haven't a clue what I thought when I was 12.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,390 ✭✭✭The Big Red Button

I don't know ... well I suppose I always wanted to do medicine, what I'm actually doing now is completely different. But apart from that, ten years ago I was fourteen, all I probably cared about was what would happen if I kissed someone else who was also wearing braces, not what I'd be doing in ten years time!!!

I'm 23 now and have wasted every day of my life so far, so ya I'm pretty much where I though I would be.

10 years ago I thought many things, I'm probably not where I would have aimed for (much currency and unlimited women) but I am close enough.

Ten years ago, I was two days away from being nine.
It may be hard to believe, but I hadn't yet constructed a long term plan.

I'm happy with where I am though.
I always loved being out doors. Check.
I always wanted to be in a rock band. Check.
I always wanted to go to collage. Check.
I always wanted to be awesome... Double check.

I can't even tell you where I'm going to be next week, nevermind in 10 years! 10 years ago I was just starting university. I don't think I would have imagined all that I've accomplished since, but that's the spice of life.

Will probably end up doing that out in Castlebar.

Ten years ago, I was dreading turning 20, it felt so `grown - up`, now I`m 29, and dreading turning thirty and wondering where the hell the last decade of my life went, despite the fact that very little has changed. I`m still single, childless and living in a rented flat (but at least I`ve left home, unlike one person I know).

While high one night i wrote down a list of goals when i was 18.

    1. Learn to play an instrument.
    2. Learn a foreign language and use it in a country it's spoken in.
    3. Set foot on all the continents.
    4. Visit 100 countries.
    5. Ride a local in each of those 100 countries.

    I'm only failing on 4 and 5.

27 countries shy of 100 visited and 29 out of 73 with the locals. So i guess i'm doing okay on where i thought i'd be or have achieved.

The 10 year old me had very high hopes for the future.
The 20 year old me struggles to get out of bed in the morning..... so no, not excatly where i had hoped...

yes, i am where i thought (and hoped) i would be in some ways. but not in others.

however....the journey to get here was longer, harder and more terrifying than i could have dared imagine.

had i know the years in-between would be so full of loss, hardship, depression, fear, anger, betrayal and disappointment then i may not have bothered.

still, at least am not bitter :D

38 and still going. you kids in your 20's will learn

10 years ago I had no idea where I would be today. It turns out my life hasn't changed too much in all those years. :)

I would be very surprised if my life is similar in another 10 years though... for starters I'm probably going to emigrate next year.

In 1999 i was 20, started 3yr college. I work in the industry i studied for, at the level i expected. Have house, car, missus, etc etc.
So i'm either really boring or a master of planning.

dildo... sorry, ditto. Add baby on the way, although I hadn't expected to be a dad for another few years :D

I'm opting for "master of planning"

You can kid yourself all you want, but a tank engine isn't anywhere near close to a fire engine. You're a train buddy, get over it.

Today, I was cleaning out stuff from my past and stumbled upon a paper from first grade. A question on it was, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I wrote, "A marshmallow." I'm glad I set my standards high. MLIA.

    wow.

15 year olds shouldn't be on the internet at 22:34.

    Go to bed young lady!

In short no. Never thought I would be studying to qualify as something, as ten years ago i didn't know what I wanted to be. i remember making a list with some friends as to what i would like to have achieved/done by the time I'm 25/40 etc. By 25 I thought I would be married and a journalist. Funny how things don't work out..

Not where I'd thought I'd be 10 years ago but have just started the course I wanted to do 10 years ago, so I'm getting there, just a bit late at doing it. Also, looking back, I've done some cool things that I never thought I would do. So I'm happy. :)Just need to find a guy and start popping out a few kids.
