    Hi all,

A group of fourth year students who were on co-op in Ghana, and elsewhere in Africa, are organising a number of events between today and Thursday in order to raise some funds and awareness for two African Educational charities.

The two charities are Ducuum Education Sudan, which is building classrooms, training teachers and developing other community projects in Southern Sudan, as well as GIFT (Ghana Ireland Friendship Trust). They're both small charities, so your help would be appreciated.

Tuesday 6th: It kicks off tonight with a debate in the Johnathan Swift at 7.30pm, with the motion: 'Developmental Aid does more harm than good'. The ex Chief of Staff of the U.N peacekeeping forces will be in attendance, as will some representatives from various NGOs.

Wednesday 7th: There will be a buskathon in the courtyard on Wednesday the 7th, between 12pm-4pm. This will feature a wide variety of artists, including members of the chamber orchestra and singers, break dancers and others. If you have any change to contribute, it would be appreciated. The two charities who will benefit from these events will have stands there if you wish to find out about them.

Thursday 8th: The final day of the Fest will feature a coffee morning in 'Teach Fáilte' beside O' Mahoney's and accross from Ulster Bank. This was held last year and was a great success, raising €800. We're hoping to get nearer to the €1000 mark this time. It's €2 for as much tea and cake as you want.
Finally, the three days will climax in the Stables at 9pm where we will be having a late night party with some African music as well as other music and events. There's the late night license there too. If you're on your way to town, it would be great if you could come in for an hour beforehand.

We realise that people are tightening their belts this year more than ever, but we're hoping that if most people can contribute even a single euro at any of the events, then the two small charities will be able to spread their support in their respective countries.

    Thanks.
