How to link something?

Ive seen it loads of times on here where a link say http://boards.ie is put in a message but instead of the whole link just a word say linky is put. Can anyone tell me how to do it thanks?

You'd type:

linky

but take away the space I've put between the "=" and the "h" in http.

You just highlight the word you're going to use as a link and then press the button Kiera posted and enter an URL to make it a link.
