    Hi Guys

Im looking at a new car and Im torn between the Accord Estate or Passet Estate. Ill be doing approx 100km a day and surfing trips etc the weekend hence why Im going for an Estate.
I have approx 9k to spend and will go to the UK if it works out better.

    Think thats the basic info???

Honda all the way. Don't think many people on here would recommend anything other than the honda judging by previous threads.

    +1 Accord.

Have an accord diesel and the old fella has the passat diesel and there is no comparison.

Accord all the way -have a 05 2.2L diesel and it's never failed me and is a beaut to drive on long journeys.

    Honda Accord FTW!

I have an older accord at the moment.

Much better than modern passats. Have driven newer accords and will say
    Honada.

Want me to add a poll to this thread? I'd go for the Accord as well.

I pity the person that's gonna come along and say Passat

Heh, I'm looking at Passats at the moment.

I had looked at the Honda Estates but to be honest I think I'd stay in bed if I had to climb into one of those every morning. Just not nice looking. And SHWMBO concurs, so that's Honda out the window!

I think it's one of the nicer estates around.

The new one is one of the nicest estates around, the previous one is pure kak. Pig ugly.
The Passat isn't that bad of a car, the boardies just hate it, and have a hard on for the Octavia, surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
I'd go with the Honda, but I too couldn't live with the looks of the previous model Accord Estate. I don't know how they got it so wrong.

    Have noticed that. :)

Though the new Accord still looks like a Kia or something to me. I personally think it will age awfully (though not mechanically of course!)

The difference is 66c per day. For a whole lot more power and refinement it's a very small price to pay. And given the stories about diesel Passats on here and elsewhere lately you'll use more than that on repairs:pac:

OP is looking at used vehicles for around 9K so the new Accord Estate isn't on the cards. I'm a big fan of Estate Cars (owned a couple myself, wife currently has one) and Accords (my daily driver), but by god the last model Accord Estate is FUGLY.

That said, +1 over the Passat :D

I'd probably try and pick up a high spec Mondeo diesel Estate, or possibly a low mileage V70 2.0T, but fuel costs aren't going to be great on the Volvo.

    Get the P-diddy.

Can't be stopped by man or beast (in a trailer at the back).

    Ive an accord. Defo Honda.

Drove and 08 passat, it was roomy inside, but nowhere near as good as the Honda.

OP has 9k. So an 08 Honda is out.
I would look at Ford personally.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Why limit yourself to these two cars only, Jonnykitedude? Neither are particularly big either, but from your username I take it you're into kitesurfing, which doesn't involve as much big gear as wave / windsurfing.

I like your thinking. Might as well spend another euro or so per day (drink one pint a week less in the pub) and get a brilliant allrounder like the BMW 530d estate. That's classes up from the other two in size, power, refinement, luxury, spec, etc. I'd go for an automatic too...

Hi guys thanks for all the input. Looks like the Honda wins hand's down but your right the back of the car isn't the best looking!!

Unkel, hadn't really thought about a BMW was looking for something that was cheapish and that would go around the clock but ill deffo look into the 530. Yeah among other sports Im sick of folding down the seats in my VW.

How about a Subaru Forester then?

Trade price at Wilson's auction for an 05 Accord with about 60,000 miles was nearly 7000 sterling on 15th October in Belfast.

Add on VRT of about 2700 or so and and you are a bit over budget.

I bought a saloon on the same day for considerably less. It is magnificent.

    Hard decisions,.

Any vehicle first registered (anywhere) before 01-01-2008 will be taxed on the 'old' cc-based system.

    Not your ornery onager

It will unless you're putting in something wrong. Are you putting 5 doors instead of 4 or something? If it's an estate you need to put 5.
