Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cattle Prices

With grass running out, I've got to move some cattle asap. the selection isn't great....8 for the factory - Ch x3, LM x2 , FRx2, AA x 1, average weight about 600Kg.

I've 10 store cattle which I'd love to get rid of but with prices so bad I'm half thinking of keeping them over the winter, buying feed etc..

    What's the outlook for 2010?

You could be better selling the heavy cattle in the mart rather than sending them in to the factory ,there is good enough money for heavy stores around the ring. Keep the lighter ones for the winter (if you can get resonably priced feeding) and sell them next March when there will be more farmers buying for grass.
P.S. Wait for a couple of weeks until the single payment comes before selling.

Wintering any type of cattle with bought in feed, is a mugs game I would say.

Marginal when you have your own home saved fodder, with added bought in concentrates.
Buying in both fodder and meals is making work for yourself, and putting money in the pocket of others.

Thanks for the advice, I'm inclined to hold onto the lighter ones and let the best of them go. When is the single payment due???
