Funny that. I attend every Leinster home game and I've hardly noticed anything like that.

It also strikes me as comical how Munster can suffer two bad losses to Leinster in a row and suddenly we've turned from ladyboys into scumbags. There's a small lesson there for everyone in persecution psychology 101. Never mind soccer mob mentality; time rugby supporters did a bit of growing up in general I think.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

This soccer mob mentality has nothing to do with anyone's recent results.

Some of the posts on this thread are hilarious there has always been of banter at games and slagging but nothing really malicous. I used to go to Limerick all the time in the early days of the AIL and get plenty of abuse at the games as we generally lost again but still we would all be in the bar afterwards no issues. At the 2001 Celtic league final there was also plenty of banter between the fans as there was in 2006 semi - long may it continue - never seen it get too overheated!
Agree with the above poster any real fans that leave 20 mins early just because their team ain't winning - are they true supporters?

I agree. Things have changed though. Last season's HEC semi final at CP, and this seasons ML game at the RDS being noteable examples.

I maintain the newcomers to rugby are in the main the cause.

Full house. Any disrespect was minimal. Noticable examples being one or two roars during the minutes silence. But that was 2/3 people in how many?
this seasons ML game at the RDS
No nastiness near me in the South stand, but plenty of friendly banter.

It occurs to me, that perhaps, when losing, some people don't take banter so well? Just throwing that out there, because I've never seen anything worth getting worried about.

I am only hoping that the general level of replies with the words "knackers", soccer mob etc is not representative of the true rugby fan and is reserved for the pompous fools who like to post in the rugby forum.

What's the point in being a rugby fan if you can't look down on everyone else?

The problem is that working class people are allowed to attend Leinster games, this obviously isn't on.

Sure did Munster lost and I think Leinster fans basically sick of listening to everyone and their dad telling them how great the munster fans were and how crap the Leinster fans were in general basically outcheered their munster contingent.
Some fans do not like it that suddenly the "worlds Greatest fans" were being matched in colour, Cheers, flags and on the pitch by their Leinster brethren.

Jealousy is probably a part of it ok. I reckon Munster have a massive worldwide brand awareness at this point. The grounds at Thomond Park are pretty good (and relatively very big), and a huge amount of goodwill and recognition was earned at the All Blacks fixture last year.

My view is a "soccer element" have jumped on the Leinster bandwagon in recent times, and there's a clear danger that their behavoir will turn peoples perceptions. It's a big threat. Not sure what Leinster Rugby should to do about it tbh.

Lastly just because posters didn't see/hear things from their own position in the grounds doesn't mean things didn't happen.

But you have nothing to back this assertion up apart from a shoddy opinion article in a tabloid.
and there's a clear danger that their behavoir will turn peoples perceptions.
    Turn their perceptions to what?
    It's a big threat.
    No. It's not.

Well nothing. It's not a problem.

Of course, however, we've had a number of posters, seating all around the stand, that have the same conclusion. They are all in agreement. So perhaps it's not actually as bad as some people make out; perhaps some people are looking for reasons to take from two great victories; perhaps some people find it difficult to be gracious in defeat?

When we have fans running on the pitch attacking opposition players in a HEC QF I'll start to get worried.

Massive storm in a teacup here. The abuse of Leamy didn't happen, the abuse of POC was so small I'd say 99% of the ground weren't even aware of it (never mind took part) until the article. "Boring boring..", "Championes.." etc are harmless and have been used by Munster fans against Leinster too without remark in a national newspaper, because they are non-incidents.

I saw a fight in the crowd four down from me in last seasons semi. It always starts with "harmless" baiting.

Never thought I'd see that at a rugby match in Ireland

I saw fight too myself not sure same one it was in lower hogan on davin end where i saw it.

But have say other then that there was very little i saw had great time with most fans.

Are people seriously getting upset by 'Boring Boring' chants. FFS I heard that before being sung by Leinster fans and I just laughed. Things are getting a bit over dramatic here.

There are a minority of tools in every crowd. Everyone knows that. As Dan said above, when people start attacking players and throwing missiles onto the pitch or there's chanting around the ground aiming personal abuse at one player, then we can be concerned, but seriously, 'Boring boring?'

This'll come back to haunt you guys. Denial of the obvious will achieve nothing. Things are getting nasty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,967 ✭✭✭✭Zulu

Humppph. And yet there are never any reports of nastiness in any of the other matches.

    Strange that, wouldn't you agree?

Why not, he made a point, that he can back up with the statements from other posters on here.

I dont see why he should get a warning just because you disagree with him.

he's not backing it up at all and he is only having a go at one set of fans with no evidence but his own opinion which he has repeatedly offered us...

This fight you saw...was it solely among leinster fans wearing football jerseys underneath their shiny new leinster tops? or was their another set of fans involved too? And do you think it is representative of all the fans in CP that day?

oh and if you have a problem with the moderation, pm me or go to the help desk ...next time you question a moderator's decision on thread you will be banned.

The big fight in Croke Park happened in Hill 16 and was basically a group of older Munster lads hitting a few younger Leinster lads. They were kicked out and a good few supporters intervened and stopped them. Although supporting Munster on the day they were simply scum and in no way indictive of a growing trend or anything

Ignoring the blame game as to who did what and what they were wearing, do you not think that fighting on a terrace might lead to the rugby authorities having to segregate supporters as happens with soccer as five years ago I would never have imagined that rugby fans would get into a fight on a terrace.

I know what you mean. I never imagined that 15-year-olds from St Mary's would be shooting up smack in the toilets at the RDS either... but in the absence of any evidence to the contrary I suppose we should just get the rumour mill going, eh?

If Leinster fans were starting fights / acting like a mob, all the Editors of the Sunday newspapers would only now be getting out of hospital after an extreme rehydration programme from creaming their pants to a heroic extent and there would have been a 15 page pull out each Sunday for the next 3 years to depict it. And then they'd release a DVD of the Leinster fans causing trouble and Munsters top 15 Heineken Cup tries.
