Now that the ECB is financing the Irish State and will be more so with Nama, that means the Germans are in charge (seeing as it's their money).

Read the announcement from Aer Lingus (German CEO) today.

Now get ready for the budget this December...

by the way this is not an anti German rant.

It's the way private businesses are being run.
If you're constantly losing money there is no point to continue living in cloud cuckoo land. 'Cos if you do then very soon you will no longer exist.
Unless of course you are a bank in Ireland. Then you're likely to find some gullible fool in government who will graciously hand you over billions of tax payers money.
Are you implying this is how we should continue to make business?

I love the way the German CEO put it! the cuts will be more like an amputation than cosmetic surgery! this was before the cuts were made! to be honest, the Unions dont really have any power, i dont see the point in messing around with them...

National Airlines will, like any other state-owned or supported agency/company, shed a lot of staff. This has nothing to do with Germany. British Airways are doing the same thing. Banks are next.

If I recall, this drastic plan was talked about before the arrival of the German CEO - but was delayed to allow him time to review it infact restructuring an pay cuts where announced at the end of Aug: http://www.rte.ie/business/2009/0828/aerlingus.html two days prior to Christoph Muelle taking up his post...

His blunt speaking says it all. Just imagine the plan they drew up for Lenihan in return for his NAMA money? That was before they saw Junket O'Donaghue's credit card receipts
