Happened ages ago that i had my computer doing some windows xp upgrade and the power cut out. So i tried rebooting to start the long process again and this is the message that i got.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

    <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.
I now want to fix this computer but all i can find on the internet to help me involves using a windows xp which i didn't get with mine it was pre installed. Any help? Cheers
By the way its a Dell Dimension 2400.

Did you contact Dell, blag a disk off them?

Did you go to the dell website to see if you can download this disk?

For safe mode it tends to be press and hold f8 on start up, but I doubt you will be able to do this.

Get the disk, copy over the corrupt file(in recovery mode)

    Edit

    This should help you:

Does the PC have a restore partition? Most Dell machines seem to have them.
