Lego shop pricing

    Hi,

Recently I went to purchase an item on the Legoshop website and noticed a huge difference between it's cost in euro and pounds sterling, it was 69 GBP and 117 euro. I don't know what kind of exchange rate they're using but that seems crazy to me. If you try to order stuff in pounds sterling it won't let you because it sees your address is in the ROI. Has anyone figured out a way to order lego from the site in GBP?

We're well aware of the scam they have going on

There are a couple of ways, go to the north and buy them or Get them delivered to a UK address

    Thanks Tallon,

I had toyed(!) with the idea of posting to UK address, but that can get kind of messy. I am purchasing about 400 euros worth so there is a saving of about 150 euro if I order in GBPs, maybe a trip up the north is a solution, the only down side is some of the items are legoshop exclusive

I bit the bullet and ordered online (and paid full price), didn't get an oppertunity to travel north.

One more question, is there a website where I can go to, where i can download images for Lego home displays, i.e. the cover of the Medieval Castle shows a cobblestone courtyard, which if i could find a print of, would look great sitting under my display at home.

Sorry if this is a strange request, have been googling this for ages

    Thanks

Sorry I didnt see this thread until now, but it might be useful for the OP or others for the future.

There was an ad on tv years ago, with a foreign taxi driver and some Irish girls. And when the taxi driver heard they were Irish he started adding on extra costs and fees to the bill, as if to say "Your Irish, your used to paying extra".

Unfortunately a lot of websites do this also, although I should point out it is probably not Lego them selves, but rather the Content Management System they are using, and the Website Design company that install this function. What happens is the website does something called geo-location on your IP address, whereby it looks up the IP address and cross references it with your country, sees your in Ireland, and automatically sets the currency to Euro***. Now while it would be so easy to look up the current exchange rate and use that while dynamically calculating the price, for some reason most sites use a static value which means in times such as we have at the moment where the Pound is the same as the Euro, the website looks to be very expensive.

There is a way to order from the site in sterling: Use a british proxy server.

A proxy is a computer which handles the internet requests for you. So instead of your request going from your computer to the lego website, it goes from your computer to the proxy server, and the proxy sends the request to the lego site. The lego site therfore gets the IP from the proxy, and assuming the proxy is in the UK, it will display the prices in Pounds.

Now the issue of using a proxy to bypass geolocation on websites is in a legal gray area. It is not banned by any actual laws, though some websites will state that they do not allow the use of them(despite it being quite hard for them to detect if your using one).

With that in mind, and so as to not bring the reputation of Boards into disrepute, I will not state here how to set up a UK proxy. Google it, or if you need specific help PM me and I will help you out.

***I wonder if you proxy from another country in the Eurozone, will it give the same price or a different price(something for me to check later)

Have you read any of this thread?

First off, you don't need a proxy, you can select your currency or location from a drop down menu on the Lego.com site.

The issue the OP is having, is that they only deliver GBP pricess to GB address!
