• I've lost the will to make friends... It just seems too all over the place. One day I could be great friends with someone the next they wont... I dont care anymore. I'll be a loner.:D

Brynn Green Smugness, is your class rep doing anything to organise social events? What about societies- any ones which you could join and meet like-minded people? I hear that Sci-fi is great for meeting people and everyone is real friendly and welcoming, how've you been getting on with them? Are the people in your class just a little on the cliquey/snobby side?

4 years of college as a loner isn't going to be any fun, and I feel awful that you've had those experiences.....

Just go to the next Boards Beers. You'll meet so many people. You're bound to click with someone, (even if it is Tar!).

Tar is horribly mean to people.
I tried to befriend him at the boards beers, but he just shouted racial slurs at me until I backed off..

Well the TCD forum-types organise beers now and again. There's been 2 since this college year began. What happens is that one of the mods sets up a thread with a poll so you can vote on the date, technically the date with the most votes wins (*ahem* :P).. On both occasions we've met at the campanile around 7ish, then we've ended up in the Pav both nights (an attempted excursion to Doyles didn't quite go as planned).

Basically you get to meet a fair few new people (we've had a very decent turnout at both beers), they're all lovely (mostly! :pac:) and it's a good laugh. The next one is apparently going to be vaguely soonish, if we're having a Christmas one that is! :) You should definitely come along, we're not *that* scary..
;62490046]No? Just me??
    O-ok then....:(
I'm in a similar situation to the person who started this thread. My class is very small, but this seems to just make me anxious as everyone has become friendly and comfortable with each other by now. I forced myself to talk to a few people at the beginning, but anxiety won over in the end, and people just give up trying with you. Now I get the feeling that they think I'm snobby or have some dark secret or something, or that I don't like them, when in reality it's simply a matter of being too panicked to interact before or after our lectures.

If you're shy the first day, then it makes it slightly more difficult the second, and again the third and so on, until you've climbed a mountain you don't know how to get down from.

I didn't make any friends in my undergrad course either, but it wasn't a problem because I felt protected by the anonymity of the large class sizes, and I had a couple of friends from my job, as well as roommates.

I think I'm gradually starting to not care however, and the whole thing takes up less of my thoughts each day.

I can't really comprehend such a problem. So I should be grateful, I suppose! I really didn't think that being shy the first day makes it more difficult the second. I found in my time in college (and there were ****, lonely times too) that the rising tide eventually catches all boats. And where can anxiety stem from if you've got absolutely nothing to lose from interacting with people? Self-awareness is just that. How you view your presence/actions in the world. Not how other people might and do see them:)

In terms of you and feelings etc., perhaps the tail is wagging the dog? If this problem only worsens over time, talking to counselling supports works wonders at giving you confidence in dealing with people, so that you start enjoying socialising with more people again. You'll never manage to apply yourself to a goal if you fear the objective. Talking to someone objective you can trust, and diversifying how you meet people are two big things I've witnessed having positive effects. Rough examples being charity work, speed dating, getting involved in sports and so on.

Heh, my first Personal Issues reply:pac:. Sorry if it's off topic.
