    2nd leg away kills us.

    We can take France.

    ROI vs. France
    Portugal vs. Bosnia
    Greece vs. Ukraine
    Russia vs. Slovenia

If we get something to hold onto at home then we could easily play the away leg with a lot of belief. Easier said than done but I have real belief that Ireland can beat France.

Chance to give Platini a heart atack. I'm happy.

Of course it's almost too perfect for the top seeds. That draw could not have worked out any better for the top seeds with the exclusion of greece.

If they beat us 1-0 in Dublin like they did last time then we'd have a nightmare trying to overturn that with this squad.

Best hope for us is probably getting a 0-0 draw at home and nicking an away goal in the 2nd leg.

Don't fancy our chances though against Henry, Ribery, Benzema, Malouda, Ok I'll stop...

With the first leg being at home I think we have very little chance to get through. Even domenech can't balls it up that much

France's record looks pretty good even with the crazy Domenech..

Its doable but we cant lose the 1st leg. If fact we prob need to score 1 or 2 at home to have a chance in the 2nd leg:pac:

Optimism has gone out the window for me.

I don't think any of the possible teams would be easy. Maybe France will have two off days?? Anything is possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,270 ✭✭✭✭briany

I have little hope of Ireland making it through now. The only way I see them edging France is through pure force of will and hunger for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Tellox

We could've won it if we were playing away in the first leg.
We're going to sit on a draw at home and get slaughtered in Paris. Oh well, roll on Euro 2012.

    Not great but not Russia

we will need to perform if we dont we are toast

    Start practising penalties!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

In fairness, the last time we were in Paris, the Irish fans were much louder than the locals. Imagine what we'll be like in the second-leg of a World Cup play-off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

First leg in Croker is going to really hurt us.

It's going to be vital to get a 1-0 win at home now, chances though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 495 ✭✭The Insider

To be honest I am not too unhappy. Obviously it is a very tough draw but I would take France over Russia or Portugal.

This is going to be seriously tough but didn't ribery sit out a few matches for france during the qualifeiers hopefully we can get an away score draw in paris and a nick a win or a scoreless draw in croker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,524 ✭✭✭joe123

Tough tough game. Pity we are at home first aswell.

Henry could be out though for the first game anyways.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭IRISHSPORTSGUY

Don't have much hope if I'm being honest. Paris will be fun though if we're looking okay going into the second leg. :)

i knew it was gonna be france!! too bad the 1st leg is at home though:(:(

Our best hope is beating them and going to Paris with a lead.

Is it, though? We've shown we're not much good at defending leads. If we went with a 1-0 lead, it'd be backs-to-the-wall stuff in Paris for 90 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

We dont need to win in Croker, if we take a draw to Paris and get stuck in the French could have one of those moody, stroppy girl performances.

Actually yeah, lets lose then go try win, at least we can say we tried then. Right?

Well obviously none of them would be 'easy' but certainly some would be easier than others.

This was my least favoured draw and I fecking knew we'd get them

To me, I really don't think that playing home leg first is a 'disadvantage', there are pro's and cons to either way.

But bleedin' France. Ugh. Words cannot describe the pain I'm feeling right now.

I cannot understand why most people on here were wanting France as their fav draw after Greece. It just doesn't make sense.

I'd take an anything-0 lead to the second leg.

Not letting them score here is absolutely vital.

I would have taken Portugal any day (especially with the possibility they could be Ronaldo-less).

I wonder will he call up Andy Reid incase we have to go more attacking....

    Any word on Stephen Reid?

Because Portugal would probably mean Ronaldo is playing (When is he due back from injury?) And playing Russia would mean going to Moscow in Winter

Portugal and Russia are much better teams than France imo and we'd have to play them in more difficult climates (not sure about the Portugal winter climate though tbh). France are an aging and quite beatable team.

After Greece, France would definitely of been my next pick. On paper we dont stand a chance, but the French are nothing if not inconsistent, two off nights and we'll be going to South Africa next year.

When they chips are down, the french are well renowned for bottling it.

Appearently Raymond Domenech said he was hoping to avoid The Irish because they concede a lot from set pieces and corners

Anyone know who the dread-locked black dude assisting with the draw was? I take it he's a footballer (or possibly former ?)

  • Registered Users Posts: 541 ✭✭✭DEVEREUX

not a bad draw, france have had some very dodgy performances lately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,270 ✭✭✭✭briany

If Ireland can do something against Italy, they can do something against France I suppose. I read somewhere that the French public are just waiting for Domenech to fail so they can string him up in the media and get rid of the bugger.

Will the away goals rule be used for this in the same way as in a Champions League 2 legged affair? Because if so, thats quite good for us, I'm always wary of the away goal being scored in the second leg and how important it can be.
