Doherty climbs rankings after Grand Prix

After this weeks Grand Prix Ken Doherty has again climbed up the provisional rankings and is now currently in 33rd place, and only 191pts off a top 32 position. After starting the season in 55th position this is a great turnaround for Ken after the first two ranking tournaments.

John Higgins is provisional no 1 with this weeks winner Neil Robertson climbing to no 3.

Ken's next snooker action apart from some exhibitions in Ireland is in the qualifiers for the Masters in Wembley the last week of this month, after that it's the 3rd pro challenge tour tournament, and having reached the semi's in the first and won the second (albeit a six red comp) he must fancy his chances.

This will all lead up nicely to the 3rd ranking tournament and second biggest on the tour the UK championships where if he wins his first match he is drawn to play Jamie Cope to qualify for the first round proper and not to forget these matches are best of 17 frames.:)

Thanks for the update, a climb of 22 places in two tournaments is excellent stuff from Ken. Hopefully he can qualify for the UK's as well

Cheers for the update. Met Ken a few weeks ago and he seems in great spirits. He just bet Mark Selby. Would be great to see him back at the Crucible!

Did he not start the season in 44th?

Only on the official rankings he was 44th. On the provisional rankings (updated after every ranking event) he was 55th.

It just goes to show how dire the 2008/2009 season really was for him. :(

Next up is the UK Championship qualifiers, I think he'll have a great chance to qualify for it as all qualifying matches will be two-session best-of-17 frames. His first match is on the 28th of november and if he wins that he'll play Jamie Cope on the 30th for a place on TV in telford. :)
