As the dust settles on the Green Partys PFG (self) survival plan it looks to me as if the most immediate element will be the Water Charges.

Again,as with many other "Social Taxes" I have no real objection to their imposition,IF they are levied in a fair and equitable manner,ie: On ALL users of whatever it is they relate to.

However it won`t be long now before we hear the first cuckoo of the depression, sitting on some suitable fence and warbling the refrain....

"The charges shall be levied in such a manner as to protect the most vulnerable and less well off in our society etc etc "

This will invariably mean an exemption for those unfortunates in possession of a Medical Card and several other grades of DSFA Benefit categories.

Again, invariably the expected €200 Million take will therefore have to come from the fewer thicko`s who actually bother to engage in "unnecessary servile work" (Remember the Green Cathecism ?).

The net result....more of the usual bad feeling and sense of financial betrayal which many in the "Working" class now feel (That class actually refers more to a state-of-mind,than any actual employment).

Any and All new charges must be introduced on an "everybody pays" principle with any supposed monetary deficiency made up by other means.

Perhaps we shall see a return to the village-pump yet ? :)

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.
