Purchased two mattresses from Mick today. Both were the mattress in a box type, one SilentNight and the other a Sealy.

These mattresses are made from Mirafoam which is unbelieveably supportive and you should try one out if you have a bad back.

Nice guy to deal with and threw in a lovely pillow as well!! Will be going back for some furniture in the not to distant future.

Do yourself a favour pay Mick a visit and grab a bargain while you can!!! :D

How much did you pay for the 2 mattresses? Did you haggle with him?

How much did you pay for the 2 mattresses and did he deliver? Am looking to buy 2 too so was wondering if I could haggle him down to €300 for a pair? Is the mattress on the thin side as it doesn't look that deep from the photos?

I paid 199 each for the silent nights and I had a van with me. He threw in a 48 pack of Andrex Toilet tissue with it though when I haggled! Every bit helps eh! My sis told me he only has the Sealy matress's left now though. He has some lovely furniture there too. I bought a beautiful coffee table off him too. He rang me back too a few days after purchasing the first beds off him to see how I liked it and whether I'd gotten a good sleep!!! I've never heard of anywhere else doing that!!

Anybody get the Sealy true form mattress in a box from Mick? Thinking of buying one for the bad back and wondering if they are of any use at all.:)

Just for an idea of some of the stuff. Got an Oak double wardrobe/4 drawer chest/bedside locker all for €299. Superking complete bed €299, 3+2 couch ex house of frazer €599 for the pair, 2 Sealy True form mattress (in a box) €199 each, 14 yards of Miliken carpet tiles €8 @ yard, 7 boxes of Krono 8mm Laminate €120, Dorma Superking duvet cover/pillow cases €30, Dorma sheets €10. Went to Longford on Saturday to see if I could pick up a few bargains for my new house and was very dissapointed. Most of the stuff is far from stylish and seems to be very old stock.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21 jeanpaul

I really don't know how you can say that! You must have been in the wrong shop. I saw no rubbish or old looking stuff when i was there and some of my friends have also purchased stuff there this week and are all very happy with the quality of what they got and also the delivery service. They even assembled the beds and took the packaging away. I will agree that they also sell transport marked goods and floor display models at a further discounted price but not old looking stuff.

You know the old saying "there's always one ".

I was definetley in the right place. I never said he had rubbish or the stuff was poor ''quality''. Just wanst impressed with what was on sale and most of what I saw in the shop was not what I would call stylish.

Dubsuperstar must be the only person not hit by the recession apart from Brian Cowen and his cronies. Big Mickey's is a true recession busting place . If you want to pay €1000 s more for your stuff, well then stick to Cleary's, Arnott's and so on and i believe you still won't get the personal service that loads of us have experienced. Look at all the other most positive comments here on boards.

Not at all but fair play is good sport and i felt you were putting this place down as a secondhand shop and its not. When i first went in to big mickeys with a limited amount of money available and spoke to the owner I got personal service even though i was far from going to be a big customer, i felt treated as if i was. There is no big expensive or flash about the place but i got big brand names at a fraction of the price. I got Silentnight, John Lewis , Harveys Uk, Dorma and so on. If it was'nt for Big Mickeys i know i'd have got a lot less for my money elsewhere.

Hi all, Got my delivery early this morning as promised. Got a phone call half an hour before they arrived and they were even early. Have to say most helpful, put everything together and in all the different rooms as required. Took all the empty cardboard and plastic away. Very personal Service. Nothing was any trouble to them. The furniture is beautiful. Will need another few bits in the future and will be back again. A1 Service. Thanks to all involved.

newbedshop.com and dubsuperstar arent related by any chance??

Anyway, all I can say is I found what I needed in bigmickey's shop and his customer service will bring me back time and time again. One very happy customer here!

Ironically enough the only bed in my house that has caused me any trouble was the house warming gift my mother bought me and it cost her thousands from a company in tullamore!

Sorry my post was misleading, I was referring to the comments by newbedshop! I've been to bigmickeys place a few times now between beds and various different pieces of furniture and its just outside longford town on the sligo road, you cant miss it. About half an hour from mullingar. What I've found is that its worth giving him a call even outside the sale dates as he gets stuff in from the uk the whole time. I told him I needed some nice chrome bar stools for the breakfast counter and he emailed me a link and hey presto I had my bar stools a week later at a fraction of the list price!
I also needed a big square coffee table to suit the living room and he picked me one up a week later! The shop and showroom is only a fraction of the stuff he has, there are container loads of stuff round the back.

I've made some serious purchases in the construction of my house (thank you celtic tiger) back when I thought I was a millionaire, and I can honestly say that not one supplier picked up the phone afterwards and asked me how my purchases were and if I was happy with what I'd bought, assuring me that if there were any problems that all I had to do was call them....except for Mick.
My big house would be very very bare only for him!

Hi all, if its any help i think you have to put 33 in front of that number. it should read 043-33-41895. Mobile is 086-8356888. All the contact details are on the web site www.bigmickey.ie You can't miss the place, its exactly 1 mile past Homebase in the direction of Sligo on the main N4 (Dublin-Sligo Rd). When its open there is a big red infatable man outside blowing outside in the wind. They have loads of adverts on www.donedeal.ie. Just search under www.bigmickey.ie I saved a fortune buying from them. My friends think im telling lies when i told them how much i paid for my stuff. Thanks again boards.

Just got my delivery about an hour ago....

Well to say we were delighted is an understatement - we got a super king size bed (with 4 drawers), airsprung pillow top mattress, duvet and headboard delivered for €385. He even threw in a free fitted sheet and pillow cases .

They took the stuff up to the room, assembled it and took away the boxes and plastic. Brilliant customer service, even when there was a mistake made by me he was so understanding and eager to help.

I would, and will be, reccommending Big Mickey to every person I know looking for new beds and any other type of furniture. And i'll be getting some new beds for the B&B off him over christmas too. Sound man + sound prices = happy customers. :D

I'm sure his stuff is very good, all I was saying is that some of these "WAS" prices have to be taken with a grain of salt

I agree with this BUT (:D) when you see the tat for sale in some of the big stores like HN's etc and their prices it is very believeable to accept the 5k figure.

I was lucky enough to get to go to the manufacturer of high quality furniture and as an extreme example footstools or poofs that would retail in the shop for €1000-1200 and fair enough this was an excess stock sale but they were €200 and he was not losing money.

Have been looking for a decent bed and bigmickey might fit the bill.

I got 2 of the Sealy ones about a forthnight ago from Big Mickey. They are deadly. At that stage he only had Kingsize left cos I was looking for a double size and he was out of stock. They are really comfy. His 3-day sale is on on again next weekend 5th November so i can check stock levels and report back. He ordered a headboard for me so i have to pick it up at the sale.

    Just Reporting back as promised.

Was down in Big Mickey's today at the weekend sale. He is completely sold out of the Mattress in a box (both Sealy & Silent Night) He doubts he will be getting any more of these in as they were a once off but there are hundreds of mattresses in the warehouse. The walls are ready to burst. Even when i was there, a full artic load of beds were been unloaded. There were people collecting with trailers and vans. It was mad busy, You would'nt think that we were in a recession at all by the amount of business that was going on.

I'm happy to have got my Sealy mattress. The saying is true "The early bird gets the worm" :):):)

There are hundreds of headboards in bigmickeys but you have to ask. They are stored in a different part of the shop. Most of them are from www.stuartjones.co.uk. Normally very expensive. I paid €39 for one of them and i saw it on stuartjones.co.uk for £230

I am awaiting my superking size bed and two sofa's from big mickey... I drove up from Tipperary on Sunday (not a sale day) hoping to see a bargain but ended up going home with a superking and two sofas!! I couldnt leave them behind. oh yeah, we bought bed sheets and curtains also!
Cannot wait for the superking to arrive, he has been minding it for me for the last two weeks cos i was unable to take it until this week and delivering it to Tipperary for free. It cost 1,050 but its fit for a queen, and cannot wait to sleep in the Sealy mattress. I have stayed in some 5 star luxury hotels, but nothing will compare to this bed! That was our budget but we also needed sofas, didn't have the money, went through a few items and he showed us two perfect sofas and paid small deposit and said we can pay him on delivery. There was never any pressure and showed us the cheap to the expensive. Told our parents and a couple of friends, but they are skeptical about this 'bargain' but when we show this bed off, there will be a few visits i can bet!

    Sounds good.

    Which Sealy bed was it?
I bought the king size memory foam one recently from another source and waiting for delivery, being talking to big mickey about the other beds we need though,so hoping we get a good bargain too!

  • Registered Users Posts: 46 lemon125

Bed and sofa arrived as promised. One thing is that the bed looked big and comfy in the big show room, it looks even bigger in the bedroom. Put it together but didnt try it out yet. The couch is also better in the room that we remembered in the showhouse.
Turns out the mattress wasnt a Sealy, not that it matters as the one we got is still savage... not sure the make. Overall 10/10

Was looking at his webite and noticed this
"We only open our premises on average once a month for a massive 3-day sale but a visit can be arranged outside of sales dates"
    is that statement still correct?

Yeah it is but you can call him and arrange a visit most days without too much bother. I've arranged a few visits to bring family down there to purchase stuff. I doubt anyone would be refusing business these days!!
