€300 to sit in a field with 1000s of hippies, no thank you.

    Suit yourself
No need to rain on everyone else's parade just because you don't like the idea.

Getting back to Limerick music, were there many local acts at the Great Friday festival this year?

    Anymore info on them?

    Here is their myspace page
    http://www.myspace.com/thesecretpolice

    They're playing in Dolan's on the 24th.

They have been around for a while at this stage, it took them a few tries to settle on a drummer. The have recorded the single in the last few months and have started to gig around the country again.

Saw V.A.G last night in The Pavillion in Cork and thought they were pretty good, played mainly covers but they put their own twist on them, if they tightened up a small bit they'd do well.

Forgot to follow this thread! Hehe yea we constantly make innuendos, a year on and it's still not gotten old! We've been playing ****loads this summer. Our set is now all our own stuff, we play one cover maybe a gig. Check it out. This is brand new and my current favourite song!

We're tightning up by the day. Check out red balloon and safety pin grin too, they got great reviews in hotpress :)

Yeah DD are pretty good. Delighted to see such a catchy band on the local scene. Went to see them with a friend who used to work with Jon Ryan from the band, and my mate, Mike, had nothing but good things to say about him.

Hey all, I don't know if this has been done before on the Limerick forum but could we all contribute any band or artist hailing from the Limerick area that you are a fan of or possibly a member of (self pimping is ok).

Seriously dont wanna step out of line - so if I did I'll delete the links or am happy for mods to do so

    Just gonna bump this thread.

It's been a while since anyone posted anything new here. So since then has there been any new buzz bands.

I hear the Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters are doing very well at the moment. Loads of positive press about them and the national radio stations have been playing their stuff.

Their new single Thread the Needle is very good.

Deadly new video by FJBH for their new single 'Hatch Sixteen'. They have come on leaps and bounds with their last two singles and I have to say their videos have really set the bar as far as DIY production goes. The new singles shows off a good night out in Limerick in whirlwind speed.
    Enjoy

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but there are some free releases from some Limerick metal bands lately, 2 of them are instrumental so a lot of people could enjoy them.

Dark_Matter. They are an instrumental Gothic/Ambient metal band who released their '_adrift_' EP at the end of last year. This got great reviews in Hotpress and drop-d.ie. You can get the download here http://www.mediafire.com/dark_matter_adrift_

Zealot Cult are a Death Metal band formed from members of Victim X and The Swarm. They've put their self titled EP up for download, I recommend anyone into their heavier music to pick this up ASAP. They've been getting a lot of praise around the country and have landed some great support slots in Dublin for international touring acts like Decapitated and the upcoming Atheist gig.

I suppose I'll mention my own band too, we just released our own EP. Shardborne are a 4 piece instrumental progressive metal band. We released our EP 'Aeonian Sequence' in the last week and it's free to download at the following links, please check it out!

Also, the fifth Siege of Limerick is being held this Sunday the 24th in the Stables out in UL. This is an all day hard rock and metal gig with over 25 bands playing over 2 stages. This gig is FREE in and it should be great craic. It seems to get bigger everytime it's on and this looks to be no exception. Even if you're not that into metal you should call in for a look, it won't cost you a penny!

Some Limerick artists/bands I really like

Brendan Markham ex The Driven click here and here (Excellent band, sadly no longer together)

    Secret Police

    Walter Mitty & The Realists

Has anyone a tip on how to pick up a copy of this man's album . . . not on iTunes, rang the HMV's in Limerick and they said it hasn't been distributed . . . don't use FB or Myspace so does anyone have any other ideas?

Their album, The Devil In Music, is pretty good as well. Ronan Mitchell's vocal style always reminds me somewhat of Murder By Death's Adam Turla.

Ya I bought it as soon as it hit the shelves. It's a belter of an album with no filler so I couldn't recommend it enough.

Won't be able to get to this with work, but I'd recommend TobyKaar for any electronic head. Saw him a while back in the Róisín and was mightily impressed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,757 ✭✭✭pappyodaniel

So who went? I had a brilliant night. Dolans was packed to the rafters,it was an absolute success and a tip of the hat goes to OUT ON A LIMB for organising it.

    Well played.

Ya I checked him out, serious dj, lots of button pushing and nob turning. He was really good and knew how to work a room.
