Clare's Music Scene

Hey all, I don't know if this has been done before on the Clare forum but could we all contribute any band or artist hailing from the Clare area that you are a fan of or possibly a member of (self pimping is ok). I have seen threads like this before from other regions like Galway and Sligo and it has opened me up to hearing bands below the radar that I never would have heard of.

So what I would like to see would be the name of the band or artist, a description of what they sound like (genre), and add a link to their myspace, facebook,bebo or youtube.

It's good to support your own. I'm also gonna post this on the Limerick forum too.

There's a lot more to Clare than cover bands knocking out The Chilli Peppers. I haven't a clue of many of them though. Off the top of my head:

These guys do sort of instrumental post rock. They remind me of God is an Astronaut. Tend to play Brandons on a fairly regular basis.

Drugzilla, bizarrely from Lisdoonvarna. They do incredibly abbrassive speedcore/breakcore type stuff. Not sure it's entirely my cup of tea but it's pretty fun in short bursts.

Isn't Vertigo Smyth from CLare,or at least is based in Ennis??

I thiknk he's from Ennis.

Musician and comedian Garry Carroll from Shannon has slowly been making a name for himself on internet-land by way of his humorous but oh-so-catchy tunes on his youtube site. http://www.youtube.com/user/dryadssaddle

Under the guise of dryadssaddle he is probably the most consistent Irish comic contributor on 'da tube' and has gained a large cult following from all parts of the globe. Fans include Nialler9, The Hardy Bucks and Graham Linehan and his videos have been mentioned in the Irish Independent, The NME and The Guardian.

From his pastiche 1980s electro band 'Solar Dreams', the overdubs of popular recording artists like U2 and to the geeky white boy rap tunes like 'It Stings When I Pee' and 'Butter Poo', Garry proves that he's more than a one-dimensional comedian. He's well worth a check if you're a fan of the likes of Flight of the Conchords, Mighty Boosh and The Lonely Island.

Good review of 2 local acts at the Hard Working Class Heroes gigs in Dublin. Kyon and Cities seem to be ploughing their way to some form of recognition by the nation's music press. Good luck to them.

your showing your age there bowsie? you about eighteen nighteen , maybe early twenties maybe? were u alive when the banner pub and early brandons , and the anti mullaghmore gigs the bushplant done? legendery clare band. still just tipping away these days but you obviously missed out on the height of it old stock or should that be young stock???:D
