vacuum cleaner mainly to hoover up dog hair !!

does anyone know any good vacuum cleaners that are good for hoovering up dog hairs on the stairs!!

ive been looking around n told that bagged vaccums are better than the bagless ones.. has anyone heard of Dirt Devil?? good make??

What about those dog hair mitts from the telly? Are they any use?
I bought a Dyson hand held vacuum a while back and I was disappointed. The newer model may be better though.

I use the Miele Cat and Dog - it was great for when I had a cat that shed EVERYWHERE!! Not cheap, but a really great hoover.

I have a white-haired cat and a Nilfisk - does the job. Tried all sort of things to remove cat hair from furniture but a combination of brushing the cat regularly and using my damp hand to wipe off the furniture seems to do it.

Edit: neither the Nilfisk nor the Miele are cheap - but my last Nilfisk lasted me almost 30 years.
