I've been with BT since day one, and it's been terribly slow the last few days, so if chorus decide to get back to me about my order anytime soon, I'm out.

Same here, some pages just won't load and then about an hour later they work fine???

I'm with BT for the last few years with no issues but over the last week it has gone to the dogs:mad::mad:

    Here you go:

If you are happy with the proposed new plan you don't have to do anything. To make sure you can take full advantage of the benefits, the package pricing will be backdated to your final BT bill date. If you decide not to stay with Vodafone please let us know on 1904 within 30 days and we will arrange to cease your account without penalty as soon as possible.

hold on, does this mean that i am being moved to a NEW 12 month contract with vodafone and will have to pay penalties if i want to move after the 30 days? Just wondering because i was under the impression that once my 1st 12month cotract was up with BT (about 3 years ago) that i could leave whenever i wanted (with notice) without having to pay a penalty. Or was i on a 12 month contract that was renewed every year just by staying with them?

My upload speed seems to have dropped since moving to Vodafone. I have the 636k upload however it only uploads at a 312k speed. I have checked the router and it's syncing at the 636k speed.

•Will I have to sign a new contract with Vodafone?

No, the existing contract will be transferred to Vodafone and the duration left on the contract will remain unchanged

Cr@p, I signed to stay with BT for 18 months back in April of this year! If VF are sh1te as people are saying, I dont fancy staying with them for another 11 months!!

Is there anyone out there happy with the service??

Has anyone managed to switch from the pre-assigned packages when moved from BT to Vodafone?
Some of their packages mentioned on their website are better than the one I have been put on.

Changed over from BT to Vodafone a couple of weeks ago. Got a new router from Vodafone because our old one was acting up anyways.

I have been very disappointed with the performance of the service so far. Speeds are definitely down from when we were with BT despite it being supposedly the same package. Also, a number of websites are taking an age to open and in some cases when they eventually open a lot of the images are missing. I noted in another thread that other people have had this issue. Apparently it is something to do with the router.

I have also had problems with major lag while playing Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 but having not played this while with BT, I'm not sure if this is to do with the Vodafone service or not.

And funnily enough, I've just had to reset the router to post this reply!!!!!

This started happening to me too... (same as WeleaseWoderick above) what can be done to fix it??

I assume resetting the router is just unplugging it and plugging it again??

It's very annoying. Things like youtube don't load and I have to refresh the page loads of times for it to work. I never had any issues with BT for years.

so has anyone managed to be upgraded from 1mb to 3mb as promised yet?

This is the speed I'm getting according to the speed test, but I'm nowhere near that in reality. HIghest speed clocked downloading a podcast was 135kb/s.

Last week it was around 800 kb/s

Even though BT said unlimited they actually meant 100. So no change really. At least VF are upfront about it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 46 mrooqie

yeah! and VF will prob put some cap-check website in place like digiweb does.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,222 ✭✭✭Scruff

I got the same letter as mrooqie.
Just noticed on the vodafone site that the packages on offer are not the same as they are offering us.

their top package is €2 less at €52
+ Free anytime local & national calls.
+ 200 anytime minutes free to your favourite three Vodafone Mobiles.
    - You'll get a 60GB download limit.

interesting. moving to UPC looks more appealing.
    + €4 cheaper
    + 10mb download
    + 1mb upload
    + unlimited download.
+ Free anytime local, national & international landline

so why would i not move to upc?????

WTF are you on about? BT have always had a cap site where you could check your monthly download. In fact BT throttled you if you went over 100 GB in a 30 day period AFAIK. Though VF say Download limit without specifying a time period which is kinda meaningless anyway.

well i'm with chorus/ntl for a year now i have 20mb d/l and 179kb/s upload and i have to say i have had only two problems with them in that time. just maintanance problems but it was sorted out very quick. i know a few people have had a bad deal with chorus/ntl in the past but they are surely the best around now. one thing people complain about is the cable signal from the tv stations not being perfect i think the signal definatly needs to be amplified for the tv but broadband is very good and i have being with eircom/bt/ in the past so hope it works out for you. using a phone line for broadband these days is just not on as it's very old tech.

what i found being with BT is that their DSL broadband is much more reliable than Cable NTL. I was with NTL prior to BT. The only thing is BT changes ip every 24hrs but if you know how to use ddclient with dyndns you're sorted

are you using linux ? well in the year i have this chorus/ntl broadband i haven't been down once. just 2 annoyances. maybe different area's with old coax cable connections might have a problem but not here in co. dublin

ps... i was with bt for 2 years and i had to cancel the whole phone and broadband connection as i was cut off every couple of days or i couldn't access the net at all for days. bt said to me when i rang them complaining about the bad connection problem that eircom were doing upgrades and they could not do anything about it as bt went through eircoms grid. I would never be happy using a phoneline for broadband because so much can go wrong. but maybe i am just lucky for now but so far so good.

I've also been with BT since day 1. Service was excellent, in 5 years or so the system was only down once, and they had an automated alert on the helpdesk so if you were on hold you knew that they were working on the problem, brilliant.

Vodafone is terrible; the signal dies often and I have had enough!

Now I am looking for a new supplier, NTL is looking good.

my friend did notice a difference with the connection transfare from bt/to voda...humm .if you have recent cable setup on your road in the last 3 years you should be ok with cable but it all depends on the age of the underground cables thats why some people get problems.

    I miss BT already...

I'm suppose be be getting up to 7MB dl, what a joke!

I've contacted VF see if they can do anthing, I've especially notice Youtube going slow, slower that even 1.7 MB would be.

has anyone contacted VF with any success!?

Have been with BT over 5 years. Always happy with the service, never had to call. Got a letter other day for VF moving me early January. I am on 7Mb but letter says the package I am moving to is 3Mb  I will call them but if it is half as bad as what is in this thread I may as well move back to €ircom  How is Eircom in Midlands? :D

Anybody know whats happening 24MB LLU2 customers. no mention in the FAQ

As an ex BT internet product specialist all signs show I connect through vodafone dublin 18.
Yet still billing from BT on option 3
The connection changed last month and this is the point at which things felt sluggish. I'm guessing at the moment this is likely due to router settings/isp settings mis match.
I use bit torrent for linux distro downloading and evaluation and have noticed speeds have dropped. Direct downloads from the opensuse servers don't run anywhere near the pre-swap speeds. Even ftp from heanet is just pointless. 700mb distro usually takes 17 mins tops currently dl speed barely exceeds 150Kbps.
I had no issues with BT and as far as I'm concerned I'm still with BT but my line seems to be connected to vodafone.
Time to play with the router settings I guess. But if this is what I have to look forward too, moving to another provider is highly likely.

Voda are throttling the bejejus out of torrents, and that's the nail in the coffin for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭boomslang

by throttling you mean traffic shaping and as far as I'm aware they are not shapping any traffic.
.. having changed filters and router I still get the same throughput issue.
I know I should get full bandwidth from heanet but I just don't. 200kbps if I'm lucky.
line shows fine no errors etc at 7.6/0.6

...this is starting to look like a dns issue....
    speeds outside Ireland seem fine.

There seems to be big issues with Vodafone and I am due to switch in the next few weeks. Are there any good news stories with them??

well if you had a contract with bt then it is nullified now. just look for a better isp service as i can see more problems down the road. my friend is cut off again from the transfere of bt to vodaphone so he is having alot of problems with them. cable is the way to go.
