Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

with the 1.6 crop factor it will be 27-64mm on your 450d. anything around 20-30mm is nice for landscapes

The EF-s 17-85mmIS F4-5.6 is a very good lens if you're on a tight budget. Works well for me anyway :D

Go long: something like a 70-300 or 70-200 (though you probably won't need f/2.8 since you'll be stopping down).

I just love a telephoto lens for isolating details in a landscape.

I was just about to ask the same question.
    I have a Nikon D90 with the kit 18-105 and a 70-300.
I was thinking of an f2.8 10-24 or something in that range what do you think?
Anyone with experience of the sigma or tamron variants in this range?

From what ive heard the sigma is a great lens.

I'm pretty happy with the sigma 10-20. Is anyone using prime lenses rather than zooms?

I use that lense that is currently on the camera or in my bag :)
Seriously, you can shoot landscapes with ultra wide lenses and with extra long lenses. What suits your subject, previsualised picture and your needs. And pocket. Only thing I would consider are optical qualities of the lense, whether you require for that particular picture extremely sharp result or whether are you going to put more artistic approach into the action by using creative filters (or plastic lenses).
