Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Worth getting the "s" model?

    Hey folks,

New job has finally afforded my the chance to invest in some new camera gear and i've set my sights on the Nikon D300, or so I thought I might be set.

With the release of the D300s, wanted to know if it's worth forking out the extra hundred or 2 quid for the "s" model, or would I be better off without the HD video feature? Haven't really any plans for creative work with it, only considering it because of those "Moments you wish you had it". :)

Beyond the video, are there any major enhancements to the new model?

I faced the same decision when opting for the d80/d90. I asked myself would I actually use the HD movie function, answer was no so went with the D80 as it was cheaper.

Dpreview has a pretty good summary of the differences between the D300 and D300s here.

Speaking as a happy D300 owner, I'd say that video is the only real difference between the two. Certainly none of the other tweaks are anything I'd be in a huge hurry for. For the first time since I picked up a camera, I really have no huge desire to upgrade my camera body. The D300 does everything I need (and more).

I suppose it depends on the price differential and whether you think the addition of video is worth it to you. If not, get the D300. You won't be disappointed.

Cool, thinking about the movie feature still, it's a tempting thing to just have for those random occasions, but leaning more towards the D300 model now :)

I have a D90 and I have to say while the video feature is rarely used on it, there have been a few occasions where I was glad to have it.

Edit: Please forgive the camera work. :)

theres a huge differene between the d80 and d90 other than video. different gens.

honestly i wouldnt bother with the s, the d300 is a camera not a video camera, the video aint up to much tbh... waste of money... get a sb600 with the difference

I have the D300 & recently had a look at the D300S when it was relaesed.

I do not want HD Video, so that did not tempt me at all. The only feature I could see that I would like was the Dual Card slots, but that is not worth a change of body alone.
