Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not quite clutching at straws, just pointing out that the poster above used that goal as a basis for the argument that messi was better in the air. While maybe not entirely lucky, he was certainly fully stretching to get to it, and didn't have much say where it went. I'm far from a ronaldo fan, but people are getting carried away with how good messi actually is. He's by no means the best in the world at every aspect of the game.

LMAO. The Ronaldo fans are really clutching straws. What difference dose it make if he had to stretch or not? What was lucky about it exactly? Yeah I've seen Ronaldo play & he's great goalscorer. But he dosent have the natural abillity that Messi has.

+1 Messi's ability it 17 was far greater then Ronaldo at the same age, Ronaldo didnt have the ability Messi had then.

Now they are very close in ability, although I think Ronaldo is more of a direct threat, Messi is a better overall player that brings in more people and has a better awareness of the players around.

Close but Messi deserved it this year.

I never said Messi was better in the air. I said in the games they meet each other Messi out shone Ronaldo via areial abillity.

He's a small player he had to stretch. I dont see why had to stretch makes a difference.

Saying that header was in any way lucky is clutching at straws in my eyes.

Well deserved by Messi. Same way as Ronaldo was last year.

Baffles me that people don't think Messi deserves it this year. It's almost like they want to think outside the box, for the sake of not having the same opinion as most people.

He's by no means the best in the world at every aspect of the game.

    nobody's saying this.

both players have characteristics in their game that are maybe slightly better than the other at. for example, ronaldo is more imposing, but messi is trickier.

but at the end of the day, right now, Messi is the better player.

and the fact that he was stretching makes 'that' header even more phenomenal in my eyes. instead of simply getting in the way of it to score, he had to direct and put his own power on it to get it past VDS.

the man undoubtedy deserves the award this year. it's not even close really, as proved actually by the points tallies.
