As for the beefed up Google GPS, this looks interesting and increasingly a threat to 3rd party satnav but they said that it was free- doesn't it still need a data connection.

The Google Navigation app can pre-cache your route with your home wifi connection before you leave, so if you don't deviate too far from the route you will not need a data connection.

If i didn't read it incorrectly, that engadget review says the Droid doesn't do multitouch.
That seems to be a drawback.

This isn't true for Android generally is it?

It's a software issue. The Droid is certainly capable of multitouch - it has a capacitive screen after all. The reasoning is somewhat of a mystery, but it's probably to do with Apple and patents. However, if you look at the video I posted of the GSM version it does have multitouch ... so there's hope for Europe at least :pac:

    OK thanks.

Yeah, the Sony X3 or X10 whatever they are going to call it looks great, but knowing Sony what will the price be? Really want to upgrade to an Android based phone, betweem the Hero, Droid or X3...interesting to see how to battery holds up with the X3 so much power...

I'd stay clear of the Hero. it's using that ancient 528Mhz processor that slows up once you have a few apps open. I'm using a HTC Magic for a few months now and love it, but I'm itching to try out either the X3, the Droid or even the Acer Liquid(Snapdragon). The Acer would be my third choice but I reckon it'll be under 400 Euro, so I'd imagine way cheaper than the Sony.

Not a fan of the name Droid, but knowing some marketing types I think milestone is a interesting choice given the phone's bulk.

To be fair, given it has a slide out keyboard, it's relatively svelt.

The questions in response to that is "is the keyboard worth it? how gorram thin would it be without the keyboard?!" since the keyboard has been the main gripe of pretty much every review.

Up for pre-order on expansys.com (not expansys.ie for some strange reason) @ 450 pound.
I ordered one. Presume they'll deliver to Ireland. Apparently it will ship in 6 days..We'll see.

I'm liking the look of this. Very tempted to splash the cash... I'd love to know what network will have it in Ireland.

Looks like it'll be called the Milestone in Europe and it will do multitouch! http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/motorola-milestone-does-what-droidont/

There's a great review of Droid here:

Apparently it's almost good enough to give up the iPhone for. Truly a milestone.

Just ordered a Motorola Milestone from Clove http://bit.ly/4wFHD9. Their stock is due in on December 7th. Seems to have gone up 20 quid in the meantime. Anyway, still cheaper than Expansys.

So has anyone managed to get their hands on one yet? Will expansys.co.uk deliver them here?
