Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all

Just wondering if there is any site that I can get good info on the role of a school principal? Secondary school! Have tried a few sites, with no real success.

    Thanks!

It will vary from Principal to Principal. It will also depend on whether the school is a voluntary secondary one or a comprehensive, or under the control of a Vocational Education Committee. Even within each type of school there is huge variation in what Principals do in different schools.

There are some schools where the Principal becomes actively involved in day to day 'small' things and others where the majority of the school population rarely see the Principal. There are some schools where things more or less tick over week to week while there are others where the Principal drives development of new courses, new approaches for particular groups of children etc..

Some schools have not changed much in terms of curriculum and methodology in twenty years, others are extremely innovative. Some schools are very exam focussed, others are more holistic.

Your best chance of an overall view of what a Principal does would be to ask one or two of them.

Have a look at http://www.lds21.ie/. They have some on-line resources but you need a username and password. Maybe if you contact the LDS they may give you access to the information. This page specifically has links to exactly what you're looking for http://postprimary.lds21.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=264&Itemid=207

You could also look up www.education.ie for circulars in relation to the topic.

Lots of theoretical stuff internationally on school leadership but just depends what you're looking for
