Usually when the Gardai and Army are together its usually one of 3 things, cash escort, prisoner escort (high risk, terrorists and the like) or the discovery of a suspected explosive device ie pipe bomb.

I take it this was shortly before you posted so id assume its some sort of bomb scare

One was to know for certain did the army have a large truck covered in blue lights with them?

They went through Westmoreland at 5.30 heading in the direction of O'Connell Street so that's probably where they were heading.

    Are they based in Rathmines?

A number of bags containing bomb parts and imitation weapons were discovered in St Anne’s Park in Raheny yesterday evening. The Army declared the scene safe at 7.15pm.
A Defence Forces spokesman said the parts could have been used to make a viable device.

yeah i thought it was something to do with maybe a suspect bomb. There was just a huge truck (didnt see any blue lights) and then a jeep type car with about 4 army men with massive guns standing outside. Across the road where the houses were had 2 garda bikes and a garda car, but no gardai around anywhere. but lots of residents standing around across the road from the army people.. hmmmm
    and nothing on the news.
    HATE THAT!

I was caught is a traffic jam near Artane Castle roundabout on Wednesday
(14th) night. All I could see beyond the line of cars in front of me were flashing blue lights. Traffic wasn't getting past. I did a u-turn to get home.

I was later told that it because of a suspect device.
