I'm doing Marketing with Languages and currently in 2nd year. All the marketing streams are together until the 2nd semester of 2nd year.

Computer Applications is very basic, you start with the Internet, then onto Microsoft Word and Powerpoint and then a bit of Excel. That's really about it, it's so basic.
You don't need to have studies Business Studies for the L.C but some people might think of it has an advantage. Everything is done from scratch including Accounting. Maths is probably the hardest subject and at that it's still not very hard but it depends on your lecturer.

There is a Maths support class if you are finding it difficult. you get e-mails about it.
At the moment I really don't know what the career prospects are, but you could be working in any company really doing the marketing/advertising for it. I'm sure you could end up do a lot of things.
The I.T is a great place, very easy to meet new people and a great atmosphere around the place.

My g.f's little sister is doing that course, she seems to like it enough.

You don't have to have business studies from school to do the course, trust me on this because I didn't do business in school, went to sligo, did business studies, got my honours degree in marketing with a 1:1 and took two years out, went travelling and had a selection of univeristies to choose from for my masters in marketing, which i have just finished.

God knowswhat you will be able to work in from getting it, but it will be very little and you will be at the bottom of the ladder when you go in. I am looking for marketing jobs now, and there is a lot of competition out there and it's all about experience. I can't even get interviews, let alone jobs.

Sligo is awesome, you will find loads of people from monaghan, and a few from louth so you won't be too out of place.

I'm actually in my 3rd of studying Marketing with Event Management and PR in IT Sligo and I am really enjoying the course. In first year its a common year throughout the marketing streams as it allows for people to change from lets say Straight Marketing into Events & PR then in 2nd year if they so wish.

In 2nd year then, you branch into your specialised area and pick up Event Management. With regards computers, its very basic and you use programmes such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc...If you are having problems, the lectures are very helpful and can give extra notes or exercises for you to practice with!

In 3rd year then, you continue with Event Management and also pick up PR. Its more practical in third year and in the 2nd semester you get to run a live project. Examples of the projects that will be run next term are a Latino Festival, Film Festival and an Irish Tradition Weekend.

All and All its a great course, with great career options at the end. You should contact the course leader, Susanna Ryan if you have any questions about it! Maybe i'll see you in the course next year :)
