im not going to go into it as there are countless threads of people going off on one about differents in costs from south to north.

its not just VAT you have to think about, thats all ill say.

Moved to Rip Off Ireland. We do not discuss Sterling/Euro differences in Consumer Issues.

The Northern Ireland bargain alerts might be a suitable place too -like so many of these "rip offs".

Good point. Might talk to the Bargain Alerts mods about this.

At the moment, with STG @ .90 EUR cent, the'res pretty much v. little you won't find cheaper in the 'Sterling' zone- not many people know this, but even at an exchange rate of .68, there was still value to be had if you were forced to visit either N.ireland or Uk (i.e. taking into account you had to travel for business purposes and petrol/time transport costs etc) - this was because STG was stable for a long time against the euro so the price differential centered more on VAT and general cost of living, than it did on exchange rate - there was still a small saving to be had!

    - over the last 18 months, exchange rate issues have compounded the issue so UK prices have been highlighted much more as being cheaper. ..pondasher, the prices you quote are not unusual as examples, but are certainly a reason why in Decembers' budget, you shouldn't be surprised by a huge big reduction in your income

We all know that Laura Ashley Ireland is one of the very worst offenders when it comes to the Sterling- Euro exchange but this price difference must set a record:
Oriental Garden Wallpaper, selling on their website (open only to UK customers) at 11.70 sterling. That works out at around 13 euros, give or take a few pence. Guess how much they're charging for EXACTLY the same wallpaper in Laura Ashley, Cork? 42 euros! Yes, that's right - just under 4 times more expensive.
My advice to you is steer clear of the biggest rip off store in Ireland. yes, they have nice wallpaper but they really don't deserve any custom from shoppers in the Republic of Ireland. Hope they close down. BOYCOTT them!
